I wish A) Vea were available at 19 and B) We would actually draft him. I just don't see it happening though. Marinelli will make sure he takes a big giant squat on that.

The Stewart pick in the 7th would be a nice little steal.

Vita Might...MIGHT...be the rare exception to the rule.

I’m sure In Rods Head, he can get the production from a Corey Ivie than Vea! Lol

Taking Vea at 19 would signify that the Cowboys brain trust finally feels that Marinelli's ideas/opinions about slighter, penetrating 1Tech's are incorrect, which they are IMO.

When we signed career defensive end Datone Jones I thought it was a good move. When we lined him up at 1Tech, I knew it was business as usual. We try to go against the grain to look clever and we aren't outsmarting anyone.

Someone is going to have to kick Marinelli out of the War Room then.

I am actually saying that it might be ok with Rod as an exception to the rules of what he likes.

I think every coach and scout has certain parameters of what they like in a player. Height, Weight, Speed, Strength, body type and so on.

And many times they will stick with that.

The Cowboys normally like Tall Stout WRs for an example. Rod likes Strong DTs that are a little smaller in weight but very quick off the get off. And we know he does not value the 1tech as much.

However I think in rare cases there are players that might not fit a coach, scout or even teams ideal parameters...but they are just really great players that are the exception to the rules.

I think Vita could very well be that type of player. He is WAY bigger than Rod likes. He is known as a 1 Tech but I think he could play both one and three when needed due to his quickness.

Also we need to see who is brought in on the Defensive side of the ball in terms of coaches.

We will just fill the LB and DB coaching areas or will we bump Rod up to another title while giving one of the new guys the DC spot and if so...maybe that DC gets priority if he wants a big 1 DT in the middle.

I tell you guys. I pretty much ruled Vita out early on. But the more I think about it ...I think if he falls, and that is the big if...we may very well take him out. I am not going to dig my heels into this one like I thought I was early on.

That is one thing Dallas has done and has always done and that is draft to key parameters and prototypes, especially early. I can't name many that were "exceptions to the rule" from many of our commonly held beliefs about their tendencies. Can you?

Jerry never drafted a Olineman in the first round...until the exception to the rule with T.Smith to which later opened up the option of more in the first. Now one could argue that does not fit a player parameter...however if we say they will not draft a 1 tech in the first, that is talking about the same thing IMO. And maybe for the same reasons. Rod believes he can get any old 1 tech and coach them up. I think Jerry and Crew thought that having Hudson Houck they could pass the first round and he could get others to Coach them up.

I would say that the cowboys only draft larger stout WRs...but on occasion they draft smaller guys like Switz...but to be fair those smaller guys although WRs...are also drafted as special teams return guys. So maybe that is not fair.

The DBs (CB and S) they normally look at are almost always around 190-200+ pounds. However Jourdan Lewis, although not a first rounder, was an exception to the rule. He was so good but slid due to off the field issues...however he is a good 20 or more pounds lighter than they normally look at as he was and is currently on their site, listed at 170. The rest are 195 or more.

Good stuff and I hope you're right! Gimme a stud DT in the first...1T or 3T!!!

Honestly, I'd even be happy with one in the 2nd.

I know we drafted Collins and Craws in the 3rd but I don't think we've spent a high draft pick on a DT since Spears in 05'?

Just the fact you have Stewart in your draft makes it the best I have seen yet.

I really would like this draft a ton, especially the first 3 picks and then Stewart

I really like this draft. With this said, it pretty well means that there is no WAY that Dallas comes anywhere near this come draft day.

My issue with 1tech in the first is that free agent 1techs don't get paid as much as DEs, 3techs, WRs, etc.. Snacks Harrison in NY is the best 1tech I've see in recent years and he makes 9.2M per. A top DE or WR would get twice that.

Spears was a 3-4 DE.
