Let’s hope Newman doesn’t get drug tested when the Vikings win on Sunday.

Get ready Foles because....
Quarterbacks throwing at Newman registered a dismal 76.7 passer rating during the season. That’s basically the equivalent of being Brock Osweiler on every pass.

Newman was even better when lined up in the slot, allowing just a 71.5 passer rating. That was the 4th best figure among 31 corners that lined up in the slot on at least 215 snaps.

Section? It was pretty much the entire forum.

That is because DBs around here are only judged on interceptions. Newman was a very solid corner for Dallas, but for many he didn't make enough a big plays(interceptions). Now they love him even though he still doesn't produce many INTs.

Newman in Dallas 3.56 interceptions per season
Newman in Cincy 1.67 interceptions per season
Newman in Minny 1.67 interceptions per season with only 1 this year and 1 in 2016

Same with those who lamented not keeping Pacman Jones. He has 16 career interceptions. Had the Cowboys kept him and he produced such low INT numbers he would be hated.

Didn't he either not play in college or do track and field and enter the league late? That might explain his longer shelf life if he's taken less of a pounding then others.

The NFL isn't picking on Newman. They aren't in charge of the testing.

According to the drug policy on Performance Enhancing Drugs, the players selected for testing are at the sole discretion of an Independent Administrator and neither the NFL, NFLPA, or NFL team can influence their decision. The IA is agreed upon why the NFL and NFLPA and can be discharged by the either side with a 1 year written notice.

Personally, I like to see stories like these. Even doing random tests, sometimes the same person should pop up. If it didn't, I would be more suspicious that it's not random. It shouldn't happen often, but it should happen occasionally.

And a certain super genius section of the forum wanted him gone as soon as possible.
He’s a system corner. Looked great with Zimmer and not so great with others. We all saw Victor Cruz bake him in week 17. Stop the revisionist history tales

I remember some saying it was a bad pick because he was already 25 as a rookie and thus would have a shortened career.

There are maybe a dozen or so players from that year still playing and he is the OLDEST starter on any defense in the NFL this year.

I don’t see anyone claiming he is the best corner in the game. It sounds like you need to project an exaggerated reaction from people where it doesn’t exist in order to justify bashing him.

Say what you want the dude is old and is a starter on the best defense in the league. That has my respect and admiration.

I don't even know if it is that many.

https://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/2003/draft.htm

According to this data, only 4 players drafted in 2003 played in 2017. Terrence Newman, Terrell Suggs, Carson Palmer and Jason Witten. Two guys drafted by Dallas. Another 4 stopped playing after last season. This data set does not included undrafted players, so there may be a few more.
