The same wr group from 2015 saw a drop in yards per catch in 2016 and again in 2017. Not 1 or 2 receivers but the entire group. Maybe it's coaching....though we've had the same wr coach for 5 years, same offensive scheme. But yea it's all of the wr's fault.

I don’t disagree that some of it is coaching...

Are there any other #2 recievers that played every game and had zero TD’s?

I wish I would have known about this site a long time ago. I was so sick of the negativity over on DC.com. Could not even chat during game time without certain posters completely ruining it for us. And thanks...:)

Sick of negativity......hmmmmmmm

So your blanket statement that it is always about the money isn't true........ a diva WR and an OPOY RB held out for more .......wow
yes, it's always about the money. those altruists you mentioned renegotiated to help the cap situation, but they didn't give up any money. again, it's always about the money.

Williams isn't going anywhere next season. I have said this before in others threads but it's worth repeating here too. When all the recievers on your team have a down year at the same time, the problem can't only be with the recievers

The QB's numbers were still pretty good.

His numbers were very very average this past season and that trend started even before we lost Zeke for 6 weeks and Tyron got hurt. We will see next year which QB we have, the one from 2016 or the one from 2017. If Dak has another season next year like the one he had in 2017, it will be his last as our starting QB. Dak still scares teams with his legs but as or right now he doesn't scare teams one bit with his arm or his composure in the pocket. Pressure seems to rattle him. If that doesn't change nothing else will either. That doesn't mean our recievers don't have to get bet, they do, but on the field it starts with the QB

I agree. if nothing else and if we end up signing someone in FA, Williams will be the 3rd WR and butler will be gone.

He's under contract, so I don't know why they wouldn't bring him back. I think fans just have to accept that he's more of a #3 guy than a #2 guy - in that context he has value.

They all left a ton of money on the table....it is not even debatable

unicorns notwithstanding, it is always easy to be cavalier with other people's money. deferring money is not the same as giving it up.

TWill??? How about Dez? I think TWill is a fine 2/3. The issue is the #1 guy not being a #1 guy since 2014, yet is paid like a #1 guy. There have been a million excuses for Dez not producing. Bottom line is he relied on his physical abilities his whole life and now they are starting to slip. His cognitive abilities won't allow him to be an effective receiver into his 30s. That is the player they need to do something with. I firmly believe WR needs to be addressed in Rounds 1 or 2 and FA.

Dez would be harder to replace than TWill. You could conceivably replace TWill with Butler or Brown but that wouldn’t be an upgrade in my opinion. Despite Dez’s struggles he was still our leading receiver last season. He led in every statistical category so it’s going to take a high draft pick to replace him. Can’t move on from him until we have his replacement in house. It’s critical that we upgrade our WR position this offseason.

I don't know what book you are reading but it is the Fiction setting

No one deferred money........Romo took 17m a year when QBs where getting 20M+
TSmith took a 9 year deal with only 22m gtd and is still only 5th highest paid
SLee took a 6m AV deal when top guys were getting 9-10m
Same with Witten who never demanded to be top paid
OScan took 3m a year as starting Slot CB...... so low we had to re-do it twice to make up for it
TFred took a 6 year deal but kept the last 2 years on his rookie deal and averages 8m a year going forward

Those are all extremely team friendly deals .......all of them had leverage to extract a lot more

Exactly....you replace the worst guys first, not the best

Some are going overboard with Dez claiming he is our worst guy. I’ve seen a couple of posters want to replace him with Noah Brown who’s done nothing. It’s crazy that anyone would think that would improve our receiving corp. It’s anyone but Dez for some. We’re all disappointed in him but some are taking their disappointment to an extreme.

It always happens once the money gets big

Dez is still a Top20 WR but he is getting paid like Top6 because when he hit FA

Dez just needs to drop the tantrums and play football

TWill is a local guy who loves the city, the team and is a good solider.
He blocks his tail off and has a very manageable contract that is GTD for next year.
He's going to be here.

Dallas would ideally upgrade over the departing Butler with a player who can routinely get snaps and actually factor into the offense.

On this team, Dez isn't worth the cap space. Not to say he couldn't be productive elsewhere, but it makes no sense for the Cowboys to dedicated that much space for average production. Witten needs to go, too. I hate saying that because he's one of my faves but at this point in his career he doesn't bring much to the table beyond veteran savvy. T Will is a good, cheap option at possession WR and he blocks.

This team needs speed on the outside to keep the DBs honest. We need a TE who puts consistent pressure on them as well, beyond 10 yards. Create space for Zeke and use play action. Dak isn't Montana or Brady and he never will be so run the ball and use play action for deep shots. Above all, give Zeke room to run.
