....1'st round tender and scare other teams off or second round tender and let a team come to us offering their second round pick. Is he reliable? He wasn't reliable on the field in 2016 or off the field in 2017. Would you take an unknown commodity in a second round pick for a known (but so far unreliable) commodity?

Second round tender.

If a team comes in and gives him an offer, you assess the offer and see if it makes sense to match. Ideally, you'd like to keep him long term on a decent contract.

If the team is offering too much to match, you let him walk for a 2nd round pick.

Easy Peazy.

I’m not messing around with this 2nd rnd pick crap. I’m slapping the first one him & extending him & Lawrence next year when we have 70M in cap space. Of course this is assuming both make good on the expectation of staying healthy, out of trouble & continuing to produce. Which is alot to ask of these two.

It depends on what the team knows that we don’t
Talent alone I sign him long term. He is a dynamic player who can take over a game
But it all depends on his off field issues
Thats what you have to make the decision on
The talent is there but is the head

Agree. For a first you can have him. Anything less he's a Cowboy

I'm with you. I'm not messing with this defensive line when it's on it's way to being dominant. I keep him at any cost. At least for now.

For sure, I'd give him a second round tender only. If the offer sheet isn't to my liking, I take the second round pick.

Agree. He wasn't totally reliable on the field in 2016, showing up about every 3'rd or 4'th game. Not reliable off the field in 2017. I don't give unreliable a first round tender, all that does is scare teams away. Second round tender will probably scare a few too

Spend the extra million and slap the first on him, we have plenty of cap space. We have been waiting for years for the Cowboys to have a line that can get consistent pressure and we final get someone who can get pressure from the inside and outside, and we're willing to let him go for a 2nd? Give him the 1st round tender at $4(ish) million and take that as a 75% franchise tag discount and see if he can put it together for a whole season.

Hardest question of the offseason.

If I homer out and think he is dominant, I put the 1st round tender on him.

If I am a dice roller, I put the 2nd round tender on him.

I am very conflicted.

2nd round tender. You can replace him with the first round pick if you feel you have to and then use the 2nd round for another area of need.

idk that concussion stuff down the stretch kinda has me spooked....

If its an early 2nd rounder in the top 10 its almost another first round pick

Considering how long the concussion knocked him out I would be concerned. As more of the CTE stuff is harped on the more likelihood smart players will take their money and run if possible.

It's taken years to find a good pass rusher, I'm not trusting any first round or 2nd round pick against what we have.
Not only did they find one pass rusher, they have found two. And both have been in this system for over three years now and have good chemistry with the other guys on the DL, which is underrated. They function well as a unit.

2nd round tender. No team is coughing up a 1st rounder for him. Dude is a beast, but there's just something about him that scares me from giving him a Crawford-level contract.
