Vita Vea or Maurice Hurst?

I like Payne a lot, but for those claiming he's the best of the group the production just doesn't seem to match the traits.

I was surprised to see Robinson and Reed fall out of the 1st from Bama and wonder if Payne might too?

Vea. My only concern is his future body weight once he's getting paid.

Right now he can move and plays with a motor. Is he doing that 3 years from now or is he 365-lbs and just holding his ground? If it's the latter, we can get that in the middle rounds and it's a wasted first rounder. However, if he's disciplined, he's a rarity in the league. He's a difference maker at the 1tech and makes the four players adjacent to him better. That's the dream teams have but often reality comes up short.

He was also a RB in high school and played basketball, so maybe the worry is unwarranted and he's just a naturally huge athlete.

I predict Hurst will take a fall into day 2 once the post-season evaluations are finished. Very scheme limited and not special at anything. Of the typical names in RD1 mocks, he's probably the last guy I'd want. It's either him or CB-Denzel Ward. I wouldn't even want him RD2.

I saw Vea play and in that one game I saw clearly that he was taking plays off and loafing. I did not like that. I am not that high on him for that reason. But that is my experience of seeing him so if that 1 game is an aberration, than he might be good. If that is how he is, than I would not want him.

I like Vea the most, but I think he's gone before 19.

I'm kind of tied between Payne and Hurst right now. Hurst is simply a great 3 tech, and I think there's a 90% chance he becomes a quality starter in the pros. He can shoot gaps just as well as he can play the run, so we could upgrade our biggest vulnerability on defense (gut runs up the middle) while adding even more pass rush heat.

Payne has super high upside though - he could be a run stuffing monster who still is athletic enough to get after the passer. From what I've seen on film, his flaws are mostly technical, and we have the best D-line coach in the business to help him iron those out. There's a lot more risk with him than Hurst, but I think we have a good situation for him, and he could be that beast in the middle we've wanted for years.

Da' Ron payne brings the best of pass rush and run stuffing,??? come on, payne is only a run specialist
payne only have 3 sacks in 3 years!!! Vita vea have 9.5 sacks and hurts 13.5 sacks, the man who brings the best of pass rush and run stuffing is Vita Vea, a freakish player we need

College stat lines don’t tell you crap. They are like 90% irrelevant as far as I’m concerned. Way too many variables to look at stats on paper and evaluate a prospect.

Things obviously change a bit if the rumors of the Cowboys being OK with a 2nd rounder if someone wants to sign Irving........... then Hurst makes a lot more sense IMO.

Jalen Ramsey.

Not enough interceptions in college.

Will never be a good NFL CB.

Da’Ron Payne. If we are going to take a DT at 19 he would be my choice, I think he brings the best of both worlds in pass rush and run stuffing.

But I still think people are trying to over correct the problem of not having a DT the past few years. I think we can get a guy to play 60% of the snaps and eat up blockers later in the draft or even at a reasonable price in free agency. If a difference maker is there at 19, of course, but I feel like a lot of people are zeroing in on DT a little too much.

Payne would be a fantastic addition to the DL. Saban always has a stable of DTs to rotate and he mostly asks them to keep the center and guards off the linebackers. This year with all the injuries to the LBs . Saban unleashed guys like Payne to get up field and do more, and oh what a difference. Payne lived in the UGA backfield in the title game and completely destroyed their interior running game. So, while guys like Hurst have nicer career stat sheets, i'll take payne any day.

Vea. Irving will be back for at least another year and Collins is a better 3 than 1

Collins will be fighting for a roster spot. I wouldn't pencil him in anywhere. He back slid from his rookie year and that doesn't bode well for DTs in the NFL. You want to see a trajectory of improvement. If Dallas doesn't make him ear his roster spot, we are looking at the defensive version of chaz green.

The cowboys can't lose again the opportunity to select a freakish player, on 2016 draft cowboys could not select Joey Bosa for one spot, if we see the impact that Bosa had on his first tow seasons, he has a double digit sacks stats. and have a lot of time to improve!!! we need players that impact and make a difference, not just players that fill holes. Vita Vea can be one of those players, of course there is always a risk, Bosa in his time was a risk, but now I see Bosa play and I say it was worth that risk for the Chargers

Vea is the most disruptive player I've seen in a while. He has the strength of Suh and is a monster. This is the player I am moving up for. He would instantly change our line into a force!

Hurst actually reminds me a little of Collins. I actually think Collins is more quick twitch than what Hurst shows. He's actually very similar to a player we have on our roster as well in Lewis Neal.

I’m in complete agreement with you on this.

In all fairness To Vea, he wasn't loafing he was digesting the running back he just swallowed.

My ideal scenario is to get Vea this year and if we still need a 3tech try to get Ed Oliver next year.

If we're talking strictly between Vea and Hurst, I'm going Vea because of his size and potential to become an impact force at the 1-tech spot.

Hurst may be nice but he's a 3-tech and I'm not sure what you do with Maliek Collins at that point.

Assuming Irving and Collins are back I think they are the starters. I'd much rather use the top picks at WR, LB, S and OG. You can get a 1 Tech type in the 4th or 5th and you may be able to get a good 1T at a reasonable price in FA.

Also Collins will be much better next year because he will be healthy, unlike this season. If he even plays like he did as a rookie we will be fine with him starting at 1T.

Well we kinda got a freakish player in Zeke. But in saying that. I would not be opposed to trading up a few spots to grab Vita Vea. Matter of fact, I hope we do. I think it would take this D to the next level.

, he was playing with a broken bonein his foot after the 5th game.Unless he eats his neighbors dog during the off-season his spot is safe. Hell, probably would still be safe!
