This is why I think the Cowboys will move up in the 1st round

This is just a hunch but what the heck we have almost 4 months to kill before the draft. With the draft being held in Dallas for the first and maybe only time, you just know Jerry will be dying to make a splash and be the center of attention. I think it will drive Jerry crazy to just sit back and take the BPA with the #19th pick. Imagine the media buzz as well as Cowboys fans attending the draft if the commish walks to the podium and says "The Oakland Raiders have traded the 9th pick in the draft to the Dallas Cowboys for.....?"

Now I am in no way advocating for this unless they fall in love with a guy who is still there at pick ? who they think can be a difference maker/blue chip talent. I think this team has some major holes to fill and giving away present/future premium picks does not seem to fit the mold since McClay has had a major role in running the show. But with that said, although Jerry has been for the most part being involved less and less he is still a showman who is 75 years old and knows the draft in all probability will never be held again in Dallas in his lifetime.

You may be right
IMO you trade up into the top 10 only for franchise QB, LT, or great DE
I hope we don't do it in this draft unless we're looking for a QB

We would have to give up at least a second to move up to the top 5 if were gonna do that, it better be for a defensive line and not offensive.
They wouldn’t get close to top 5 for their 1st and 2nd. It would be on the fringe of getting them to 10. To get to 5 would be at least next years 1st and probably their 2nd or 3rd this year.

I hate trading up. You watch tape and you find players you think can be good in every round and it's too painful to give up that second player. That being said, I think it was the Draft Show that was talking about Dane Brugler's mock and how difficult it will be for the front office to sit and wait while the guys they like get wiped off the board, so I think (not want) the Cowboys will try to trade up this year.

Looking at the draft pick value chart, our 1st and 2nd is worth probably about pick #11 and our 1st and 3rd is worth about pick #15. Mind you, that's assuming the team we're trading with doesn't fleece us and spoiler alert, they will, which is why I hate trading up.

I could see going to #15 if some stud like Derwin James is there, but a second rounder only getting you to #11 just sucks. I mean, a second rounder in 2012 got us from #14 to #6.

14th & 45th is worth 1550 and 6th is worth 1600, so the actual trade value favored us in that trade. The Rams were in a trade back mood that year though, #6 came to them from the Redsins in the RGIII trade for #2. The value of picks in the top of the first is exponentially more expensive.

Recent history says we are staying put. Jerry isn't savvy enough to swing a draft day trade where we actually get fair value.

If it wasn't in Dallas I would be inclined to believe you, now we got the pointless hooplah were better than the 8-8 record and now we have to make a splash to win a championship!!

I’d rather trade back than up. Unless Nelson falls to the 13-14 range

I do not see any thing to predict trade wise in late Jan, we are still poking and interviewing the talent. We are in a good spot with lots of talent available with the run on QBs that will happen this year. I agree the trophy catches in late Jan are Ro Smith and Derwin James. Not so sure they will be in March

I agree Jerry will be tempted to make a splash but Steven and Will have done a really good job restraining him the past 3 drafts.

I think Guard in the 1st is overkill...Cooper has been decent. Although LT is becoming more concerning and unstable.

I'm happy with Ridley, Smith, Edmunds or James at 19.

Nothing crazy, I'd be open to go up like 3/4 slots but wouldn't any to lose out 3rd.

If we get a game changing player I'm for it, but in this draft imagine it's gonna take a 3rd for that at least to many qbs. That being said it may be a blessing for us as well.

I think it would be poetic justice to see us trade away ALL of our comp picks to move up in the first round to select a player that we could have picked without a trade up if we had just lost the last game.

That is never happening. It's like saying Rosen or Darnold falling to 10.

I haven't seen Darnold play much but quite honestly he looked lost and unimpressive when I watched him play in the bowl game. I am totally unimpressed.

To be fair one game is a bit much to come to conclusions. I'm not saying draft whoever, just your assumption is abrupt. Everyone has bad games.

We were better than 8-8 by a game 9-7. I would trade up for Bradley Chubb. If he makes it out of the top five. If he is there with say the Jets at 6, I am taking him because he doesn't get past Tampa Bay.

word is James is a real liabiliy in coverage and is going to be a box type SS in the nfl.
