Inspired by Cnu's mock draft posted today:

1st round: Mo Hurst, DT, Michigan. Looks like a pretty special 3 tech prospect to me, and has a combination of quickness and power that few gap shooters have.

Fallback pick: Da'Ron Payne. Hurst and Payne are like 1A and 1B to me. Payne is scary athletic for his size.

2nd round: Leighton Vander Esch, MLB, Boise State. This guy goes 6'4" 240 and really thumps against the run, he's what we need at Mike. Word is that he will test better than people think as well. Projecting him in the mid second is optimistic, cause I've been hearing some late first round love for him.

Fallback pick: Terrell Edmunds. He reminds me a lot of Church, like a tweener between a safety and a Will linebacker. IMO, that's exactly what our system needs. I like Derrick Nnadi here too if we don't get a first round DT.

3rd round: Dante Pettis, WR, Washington: His route running needs work coming out of an offense that asked him to run more spread-style routes, but he is tall enough to play outside and is electric after the catch. I think he's worth a gamble as we head towards day 3.

Fallback pick: Michael Gallup. Kind of the same thing as Pettis above: needs some polish coming out of a spread, but he has the size and YAC juice to make it.

Third day: get me an RB who runs hard inside to replace Morris, and take some SPARQ dart throws on defense.

Like your draft, but I would rather take a more untalented wr that can run routes, believe we have to much of the talented can't run routes guys at the moment.

I think this is a good analysis of what we need and what rounds to fill those needs. I want dl in the first and I think a good MLB will be available in second. I want Vea and then Van Der Esch but I would be happy with Payne or Hurst if Vea is gone. I might try to get a tackle before a receiver though.

I feel the same way, but I couldn't think of any Cooper Kupp type guys in this class. Tbh, I haven't watched that much film so far this year.

I think this is a really good year to go DT. There's lots of talented guys who are grading out in that mid first round range.

I personally am not a fan of taking a mid-round offensive tackle, just cause I think the hit rate on them is so low. For a LT IMO, it's either a premier athlete or nothing.

If Vander Esch falls to us in the 2nd, I’ll be pumped!

Pretty solid! Don't know much about the Van Esch dude but have been hearing good things.

Right now CBS Sports site has Van Esch listed around a 4th round pick.
What has changed to move him up to be a 2nd round pick?

I was about to post a mock draft and I had either him or Cam Smith as a LB pick with our 4th round comp pick.

The last two sites I looked at had Vander Esch at #40 & #74 and rocketing up draft boards.
I’ve been hearing late 1st/early 2nd.
Obviously the Combine will determine a lot.
I’ve watched this young man since he walked on at Boise State. He’s earned every accolade he’s receiving and has had nothing given to him.
Every time I watch him play, I think “Sean Lee” the way he gets through the junk to make a play and how he can drop back in coverage as well.
Lofty comparisons I know, but I would be ecstatic to get this young man in the 2nd.
No way he slides to the 4th barring an injury before the draft.

Thanks for the info, certainly a player to watch for in the combine, see where he is ranked after that. But we need a LB, and if he is there in the 2nd, and is half as good as Lee, then draft him.
