I don't agree, but that's fine I see our talent coinciding with our record. Were not terrible, but our 20-25 year W-L record tells the story of this team to me. There are a few players with projection could make us a lot better, but time will tell. Every team has a few elite players, I would say we have 5 Zach Martin, Travis Fredrick, Zeke Elliot, Demarcus Lawrence (still need to see more to many injuries/suspension) and Lee. I'm projecting on two players Lawrence and Tyron. Smith didn't play at an elite level and believe was the third year of back injuries, his arrow to me is pointing down, I hope I'm wrong. Were well below average in so many categories, safety, lg, wr, offensive line depth, and lb depth. We have an average defensive line even with Lawrence which is a hell of an upgrade from where we were a few years ago.

TV income to the stations goes down.
Income to the NFL is already under contract for the next few years.

That's why you will see more stations bring in the Cowboy games as they get ratings.
Ratings = Money.

What happens when the next TV contract comes up and the Players association negotiations will be interesting.

This is also why the owners tied income to Roger's deal.

Bingo. Still 5 years left on the current TV contracts so nothing is going to change in terms of money earned from TV ratings any time soon.

The one thing not mentioned about the cord cutting and people using other ways to watch the NFL is this
They are all capable of ignoring/deleting/skipping over commercials.
THUS the advertisers will rightfully say that they can no longer pay that kind of money to the TV networks for the loss of audience means that those commercials are being seen by fewer and fewer people.
THAT is why the next TV contracts will be either stagnant or possibly even less.
And why those thinking that just as much money or more will come from the other sources (streaming, etc) are wrong

Those that stream, etc pretty much never watch commercials

Yup. Players, and for that matter anyone who is on the NFL tit, should be brownnosing TV. That's where the money comes from.

If you're employed by the NFL, saying you don't care is stupid. That's just extreme narcissism at it's finest. What's happening now will affect NFL employees for years and years to come.

Streaming services are pay tv, you pay for watching, as for adverts they will just build those into the game much like Soccer has with billboards around the ground, you will have more product placements in the studio and the main sponsor will sponsor the programme. They can even show adverts whilst the game is on, small banner adverts or scrolling across the screen at the bottom.

The evolution of TV advertising has changed over the last 50 years from the days of Brand X proudly sponsors, or when the actors themselves broke the 4th wall to use a product.

They will when their salaries go down.

I doubt it. Going from something like $8million/year to $6million/year isn't a big deal for most. Especially the ones who grew up with nothing.

This past weekend the NFL had three very competitive games among its four divisional round playoff contests.

Unfortunately for the league, ratings continued to plummet.

In fact, ratings are plummeting so much that virtually no major media outlets are even talking about ratings at all. It’s almost like the league and its television partners have put out the code red not to acknowledge the collapse in viewership so far in 2018

As long as I can watch my Eagles win the Lombardi I really don't care if the rest of the country watches golf :)

I'm planning on watching the eagles lose. No way the eagles take out the Pats.

Such a sad world I'm only rooting for the Eagles, because one they have never won a SB, and two to further tarnish an overrated qb, with the best coach in history!!!! Yes, he's still elite, he's no GOAT though.

I bet the Patriots -105 -6, I just feel to confident about it, I just want something to watch and this game doesn't do it for me!!!!!

The players who fight for maxed out contracts think it is!!!

So like 5% of the league? QBs are overpaid so they should be getting their salaries cut anyway.

How did Emmitt Smith, Deion Sanders, all those old players ever get by making so little money?

BUT will the advertisers pay the same money when the audience is not forced to watch the 30 second commercials they have now. Billboards and notes on the side of the screen do not make as much an impression. That to me is the key- I do not believe the money will be there. Ad revenue has been either going down or stagnant in many areas over the last few years; so the NFL cannot expect big increases like they have in the past. I forsee at least a flat cap starting about 2022.

You get premier advertisers paying premium $, Football still has the most watched TV audiences, you don't need as many 30 second ads, Brand X presents SNF, and if 1 advertiser drops out more will want to fill the hole.

Then there is London, there 1 main reason why the NFL wants a team in London and that is $, £ & e this will open further revenue streams from advertisers not only in the UK but Europe and it will be further $$ in the coffers.

ABC and TNT pulled out of Thursday Night Package bidding

CBS and NBC bid less than last 2 years because they are losing money

FOX may increase bid and take losses to increase exposure for brand

NFCCG was down 12%..............didn't see official AFCCG numbers but they were reported to be pretty strong

Why are fans so interested in tv ratings? are you running a tv network?

Never understand why fans claim to care about this.

They are only interested because they are hoping ratings continue to plummet and they can claim it's because of the anthem protest. If they really cared, they would know ratings were falling prior to Kaep kneeling.

exactly right.

if ratings are failing then their politics are better and more american.

the dog whistling is huge on this site. I'm sometimes shocked at how blatant most are here.
