Whoever played drums on John Mellencamp's album Scarecrow is awesome. He may not be the fastest, or most original, but he's very expressive.

Good Good Good.

Will add a few

Nicko McBrain - Even if you just take the drums in Run to the Hills...most will play air drums to it lol.

Even if some people talk about him, IMO he is still underrated - Vinnie Paul of Pantera. To this day when I listen to Pantera I am still caught finding a different drum pattern or "riff" he uses in a song. And he will use multiple different ones depending on the song yet they all sound good. I think a great deal of People don' really pay attention to his drumming in Pantera because Dimebag is so good on guitar and Phil was so killer on vocals...but they should. Just sit and listen to the drums in each song. It is amazing how many different riffs/beats he will play.

Dave Lombardo of Slayer - for the style he is killer and he has his own sound. You can tell him from other drummers IMO. Hitting that one cymbal while in rhythm mode.

Pete Sandoval - Most probably have never heard of him nor the band he was famous for playing in. It was death metal drumming and he did it better than most. He and Trey Azagthoth (guitars) made a formidable set of artists for the band Morbid Angel.

I remember when Nirvana first broke. Nevermind was a very good CD and it was refreshing as something new even though it was stripped down garage band kind of stuff. I remember talking with friends about the musicians on the CD and how none of them really stood out as far as musical ability other than the Drummer. The drummer was good and the rest of the guys were kind of lame even though the songs worked. Did not even bother learning who the drummer was until years later and of course most know who it is now and how much fame he has achieved as both Singer and Guitarist for teh Foo Fighters.

That lovable autist Neil Peart is at the top of my list.

Stuart Copeland needs some love, too.

Lots of good ones already mentioned.

I haven't seen Scott Rockenfield on the list yet though.
