I think he will turn into the defensive coordinator soon.... I have a feeling Rod isn't going to be around long.

This.

I think he's DC caliber material - he's always done a good job in Seattle, but he must not have got any good offers on the coaching carousel. I think he is either going to hang out here for a year and try his luck again in the 2019 offseason, or set himself up to get the DC job here if Marinelli starts talking about retirement.

Either way, I think he and the Cowboys both know that this "passing game assistant" job is just a one year thing.

I'm happy with the hire. Most of Seattle dbs were not 1st round picks and he got the most out of them. Hope he can get AB back in form.

The thing that gets me is that Seattle has had a bunch of churn outside of their Legion of Boom, but those guys were consistently good. They went through a bunch of Jeremy Lanes and Byron Maxwells opposite Sherman that always did pretty well, and this year when Kam went down, they brought in this McDougald guy who played really well in his place.

Some of that is those DBs benefitting from the strength of the unit around them, but I think part of it is a coach who can develop young players and get his backups ready to play.

Heard some Seahawks fans say he might've been in over his head a bit at DC last year (first year of them not having a passing game coordinator also probably didn't help), but he should be an excellent DB coach.

Excellent hiring and i like it.

Give him some more kids to work with in the upcoming draft and play the best we have while creating much needed depth and actual good performances in games to get a starting spot.

No more starting blokes on reputation and/or decent coin when they are getting torched.

Not to mention, you learn game management, game planning and personnel use from a great head coach.

Stay on topic? This is the topic you brought up. Realistic expectations. Is it realistic to expect a coach to produce more than one playoff win and two playoff appearances in seven years?

Of course not, how can somebody expect a program to be built in less than a decade, the fact that Garrett won a playoff game during this rebuilding phase is actually quite remarkable. The fact that you don't see or understand this is quite disturbing. Your impatience and lack of knowledge about the game is disgusting me.

Just look around the league, do you see teams that hire a new coach and go to the freaking SB in like year 2?

DO YOU?

I fancy myself as being pretty knowledgable about football, and today was the first time I've heard the title in reference to a defensive coach. When I first read it I thought it was a misprint, not that they were hiring him to coach offense. I've since been enlightened.
It was mentioned last off-season in connection with Eberflus, so not everyone would have caught it. It is becoming more common. Raheem Morris, for example, does it as well. Will probably see more of it as teams start using more spread concepts.

He was interviewed by the Colts. Did not work out for him.
