1techs make way less than many other positions like WR, OT, DE, CB, 3tech.

It's a better deal to get one in free agency than to draft one.

Use the 1st round on more expensive positions.
Dallas wouldnt even pay Mcclain 5mil a yr and he was a big peice to the DL.

He never stayed healthy. His played declined later in the season last year in part due to injuries. He missed multiple games the other years.

Chaz Green was really good in two starts in 2016 but I wouldn't pay him either because he never stays healthy.

I agree 100%, but am I the only one that would be skeptical of signing the starting NT from the 25th ranked rush defense?

Brandon Thorn who graded all DT's this year 1-104 and is very good, graded Bennie Logan out as 40th best.

That's higher than Irving, 52 or Collins 68.

But I'm not sure it's worth 8-9M per year long-term.

Dallas was 1st against the run in 2016 and 8th this past season.
I'm not sure anyone could make a convincing argument that's where 8-9 in cap space should be used.

If Dallas does in fact buck the norm an go after a top tier FA, I am hoping it nets us Logan.

The Cowboys had a good amount of interest in Logan in the 2013 draft and may have been our 3rd round pick if the Eagles didnt draft him.

Logan is a bit of a unicorn at the 1T in that he adept at both occupying blockers and penetrating gaps. He fits the mold of both what Marinelli wants from a DT as well as the type of player that works in any system. You arent going to get sack numbers from him, but he gets a good amount of pressure.

His sack totals may keep him from getting an exuberant amount in FA, but I think he could be had for just south of what we gave Crawford. He signed for 1 year deal at 8 million last year

I think the Eagles keep him. Though I have hope.

Well, and maybe everyone already knew this, but Kansas City is more than $8 million over the cap. I'm not saying they can't create room (maybe like $6 million over after 2017 cap credit) but Logan may not resign in KC. Guess we'll see. Although trading Alex Smith creates a ton of room.

all of those guys will get more than what this team wants to pay for techs. Who are basically on the field very little for this team. Dallas isnt going to pay more than 2-3mil a yr for a guy who is going to get rotated and taken out in passing situations. Dallas has 3 primary DTs that eat up the snaps. Thats David irving, Maliek Collins and Tyrone Crawford. Add in a guy like Datone Jones who played really good playing the 1tech vs Philly. I think thats the guy they end up signing.

Edit: actually he's already signed for 2018.
I thought the eagles played mostly backups during that game , so was it a good performance by Jones or did he just benefit from playing inferior competition? I'm suprisedrod used him at the one tech since his defense gave up over 200 yards rushing to the eagles in their previous meeting.

He was better at 1.
I'l lke Collins but he is a three tech. Off the top of my head I can think of several games where the cowboys gave up over a hundred yards rushing with Collins playing the one tech. The 49ers game, the falcons game, the eagles game, raiders game ,the second giants games.

Logan made a costly error by not taking the Eagles deal which offered more per year than he got in KC. He turned it down b/c he thought he could get more on the open market. Whoops. But, he doesn't get much pressure on the QB which is a hallmark of what Marinelli wants at DT. Dontari Poe might be a better fit for us, and we can probably get him on a 1 year deal. He has more upside anyway.

I like Logan, but never thought of him as a top tier player. Pretty good playmaker for a NT, as witnessed by his tackle numbers, but, as you're saying, doesn't seem to pressure the pocket much.
