Who makes a coach with only 2 years experience “ the future of the Dallas Cowboys” ?

Comparing most coaches this era to Belichick isn’t fair.

We should be comparing Garrett to the other bottom feeders in the NFL.

Comparing Garrett to Bill is like comparing Dak to Brady.

I feel it'd take more than just the HC to compete with Belichick on an even plane.

I believe it also requires a great staff and a great GM to accomplish such a feat.

I wouldn’t hire JG to be Bill Belichick driver...

JG should be coaching high school football...

I was watching 30 for 30 The Two Bills. One on the reasons that Belichick is so great is that he is proactive. He proactively plans for every possible thing that could go wrong and makes adjustments before it actually happens. JG on the other hand is reactive. The Cowboys went 13-3 in the 2016 season and Dak had a fantastic year. Instead of being proactive and planning for how teams would adjust to game planning against Dak JG just went along with the same formula in 2016. Now JG is being reactive by trying to come up with a Dak friendly offense.

Or more succinctly....belichick is great and JG is terrible. I'm not sure anyone would argue that.

Lol But Garrett didn't go to the Senior Bowl bc Jerry said he's STAYING BACK TO STUDY WHAT OTHER OFFENSES DO. Lol, isn't that proactive enough??

Post of the Day....also, this from Star Wars, but change "identification" to "qualifications" when referring to the clapper (this is Jones in front of the media, of course)
Rey-Use-Force-Eerily-Similar-Way-Obi-Wan-Used-Force.gif

that being said, it is difficult (laughable) to even put these two in the same sentence together:

POSITIVE: Belichick is a cheater (had to get that in there). Period. But, he does WHATEVER it takes to win. The definition of what it takes to win no matter what
NEGATIVE: Garrett claps. Period. Might sound like I am being funny, but how about you stop the incessant clapping and hold people responsible when they screw up?

POSITIVE: Belichick runs the ship HIS way, not the way of his owner. The Owner goes with what he says, not the other way around
NEGATIVE: Garrett has one excuse made FOR him and runs everything the way his owner wants, not the other way around. Garrett follows Jones like his personal lap-dog, not the other way around.

POSITIVE: Belichick understands football, how to win and would be snatched up by another team 5 minutes after he was let go, if NE was dumb enough
NEGATIVE: Garrett knows little about running a football team or winning and would be a pariah and a laughing stock 5 minutes after he was let go, if Dallas ownership ever decided to try winning outside of JUST making a lot of money (I would be shocked if he even got a look by a division III college team)

I could go on......

I wouldn't say Garrett is reactive.

I think he's rigid and dogmatic which is why he's seems like a deer in headlights when scenarios involving game management call for dynamic thinking.

Belichick's dad was a well respected scout. Garrett's dad...not so much.

Belichick didn't get past playing low level college ball. Garrett played in the NFL.

On a different subject I see this a lot in golf...new age golf instructors making big strides despite having zero playing credentials.

The older instructors had playing credentials and often complain that the new instructors with no playing credentials don't belong teaching Tour players.

But the new instructors w/o playing credentials are having some tremendous success with players.

My feeling is that because these coaches don't have playing credentials, they are more willing to seek out different ways to differentiate themselves. They will seek out physicists, biomechanists, neuroscience experts, statisticians, engineers, etc.

So like Belichick, not having the greatest of playing credentials and looking like a guy that never played a down in his life...he needed to be on the cutting edge of advancements in coaching to help differentiate himself from other assistant coaches if he was ever going to advance in his career. Belichick started off as a lowly defensive assistant that was basically doing grunt work...Garrett started out immediately as a QB coach. Garrett didn't need to find ways to differentiate himself when he had his NFL playing career and Princeton degree to display to prospective employers. And then he was handed the O-Coordinator spot pretty quickly.

It's not that I think everything Garrett does is wrong (nor do I think everything Belichick does is right). But you see this in their coaching today. Belichick still hires guys with little in the way of playing credentials, but are on the cutting edge of advancements in football coaching. Garrett prefers to keep a limited playbook with a lot of the schematics being very basic, rarely running gadget plays and sticking to mostly established NFL assistants.

I like that Garrett has tried to establish a 'program' here and that I think he's hired..for the most part...some quality assistants that are good at developing talent. And Garrett has done a good job of developing that talent. But his in-game coaching is so poor that it counters his ability to create an environment of developing talent. Even when things go according to plan like they did in 2014 and 2016...we are still in a pickle come the playoffs because we are playing against quality teams that often have superior in-game coaching.

Jerry honestly expects JG to be the reincarnation of Tom Landry. If that's not seeing things through rose-colored glasses, I dunno what is.

He needs to step back and hire real GM. Of course, that's been the case for way too long now. Yet, it's as true as it was 23 years ago.

Why do people insist on this narrative? 30 other teams can say the same thing. IS this what the DFW sports radio circuit is fixating on or something?

Garret isn't reactive either. Lack of halftime adjustments shows that. He has one plan and if it doesn't work he will adjust it the following game.

I think every coach in the NFL should be just like Belichick. It's easy....that is why so many coaches have done what the Patriots do every year.....no wait

JG feels less than reactive - it seems like he has to be forced into course correction, or any action at all (either by Jerry, the media, or the fans).

Think about Jerry saying recently something about how we have to adjust more, through the season and through games. Its just crazy he has to come out and say that.

I think you might be on to something here. I can’t think of a more effective way to run a head coach out of town, whether it’s the NFL or college, than for the fan base to start referring to him as JarJar. I mean a significant number of t-shirts on game days, calls to sports radio, message board posts, in stadium chants, etc. all referring to the coach as JarJar. It wouldn’t be long before he had to go.
