Fleming deal = Lae'l staying put at RT?

Given that Fleming signed only a 1-year deal, and we signed 2 guards, I think it is more likely that Collins is staying put at RT and Fleming is just swing T. Not sure we'd "upset the apple cart" for a guy we just signed for 1 year, and then have to revisit the whole OL structure again if he leaves in free agency next year.

Honestly, I think a lot will depend on the draft. If we draft an OT in first two rounds, then maybe Collins moves to LG, Fleming starts for a year at RT, and draftee takes over at RT in 2019... If we draft a G in first two rounds (or don't draft any OL in first two rounds), Collins stays put at RT, Looney/Martin/draftee battle for starting LG, and Fleming is swing T. Thoughts?

Bad idea
Fleming signed a one year deal so he’s not the future there
Collins grew into the job very well last year
Guards are much easier to find and protect that tackles
Just draft a guard in the top 3 rnds
You can’t have every position played by players on second contracts

He's not the first future but who's to say they don't draft tackle and develop a guy? If Fleming is one of our 5 best linemen....he needs to be starting.

I don’t see many good tackle prospects in the draft this year that you wouldn’t have to take early
It’s much easier to draft a guard than tackle and they are easier to cover their mistakes
Collins is the future at tackle, why move him and set him back in his development

If Fleming can do the job, sure why not have Collins back at guard. Love to see him destroy the lbs and dbs.

It seems we only signed one Interior backup and one exterior backup. Not sure if the plan to go g or ot in the draft for a starter.

I think Cam is swing only for now, baring some crazy injury or performance implosion scenario happening during TC/pre-season. I would hate to do to La'el what this staff did (in large part) to screw up Chaz Green last year. Yeah, Chaz has been Mr. Glass from an injury perspective but the flippity floppity between tackle and guard last year did him ZERO favors. Let Collins focus on mastering RT and don't mess with that, in my view.

Fleming will get his playing time this year, if last season is an indication, with injuries to T. Smith. If Cam is a competent player at OT, this signing may be our smartest is years.

So they signed him as backup for Tyron Smith?

swing tackle to back up Collins as well but yes why not insurance for Smith is parmount given what happened without him last year..Plkus rumors have it Collins back has flared up a bit as well..we should keep Collins at RT and use Flemings as a backup..

This coaching staff is dumb enough to move Collins back to OG. They have one opening in the OL but will make 2 moves to fix it. They did it last year, they had their LG in Collins coming back from injury and an opening when Free retired. Instead of fixing the RT problem they moved Collins there and created a hole at LG.
