Sounds exactly right with this front office and head coach. They are and have been completely lost since Garrett took over.

Nobody has any idea what to do or how to build and execute a defense. 7 years.

I am really scared this will be a defense heavy draft and we will end up with the wrong guys yet again.

You don't think they were lost prior to Garrett getting here lol?

It remains to be seen if Jones can play CB exclusively, but I'm fully convinced if he's going to be anything in the NFL it will come as a corner.

I've got four games from last year still on my DVR (all wins of course) that I recently rematched. One of my primary takeaways was Byron Jones has no business being counted on as a last line of defense in terms of tackling.

doesnt hurt that Kris spent years watching the best safety in the league
watching Byron after that was probably sobering

Pretty obvious.

Kris likes to run the Cover 3 shell and press, disguised with Cover 1 looks.

For him, optimally this involves bigger CBs with some speed.

I think being the possible #2 behind Chido with Lewis as slot could be the best thing that's happened to him
All those expecting Earl Thomas can lick it! We’re moving up 8 spots and taking Derwin James! Infinity Platinum Guarantee! Sorry GORICO. It had to be done.

Many of us on this board have been saying this for years as well
I'm sure Kris did not have to "watch the best safety in the NFL for years" to reach this conclusion

If they draft defensive guys they might get lucky
I’m worried we only draft one in the top 3 rnds
So not true. Look at the 2000 and 2001 drafts. 10 defensive players drafted out of 14 possible picks and they all pretty much sucked.

2000 Draft
2 18 49 Dwayne Goodrich Cornerback Tennessee
4 15 109 Kareem Larrimore Cornerback West Texas A&M
5 15 144 Michael Wiley Running Back Ohio State
6 14 180 Mario Edwards Cornerback Florida State
7 13 219 Orantes Grant Linebacker Georgia

2001 Draft

Round Pick # Overall Name Position College
2 22 53 Quincy Carter Quarterback Georgia
2 25 56 Tony Dixon Safety Alabama
3 31 93 Willie Blade Defensive Tackle Mississippi State
4 27 122 Markus Steele Linebacker USC
5 6 137 Matt Lehr Guard Virginia Tech
6 8 171 Daleroy Stewart Defensive Tackle Southern Mississippi
7 7 207 Colston Weatherington Defensive End Central Missouri State
7 40 240 John Nix Defensive Tackle Southern Mississippi
7 42 242 Char-ron Dorsey Offensive Tackle Florida State

Not hard for a top defensive backs coach to recognize that those who should be playing safety are actual safeties in college and not "hybrid" types like Jones.........Great athleticism doesn't mean an ability to recognize a play as it unfolds like Ed Reed could.....................

We tend to draft defense when they think that’s the biggest need
They drafted mostly defense last year because they seen the need in the secondary
But look at last year, we parted with players and replaced those players
Look at who we’ve parted with this year
