Coaching has a bullseye on them now

LOL a dozen years, same excuse. The team is never good enough and oddly enough the lack of talent has nothing to do with the coaches evaluating that talent? A hall of fame caliber QB and D doesn't just grow on trees. Those things are developed, coached, schemed., prepared. What's Garrett bring to the table? His ability to work well with Jerry. That's really paying off.
What’s the alternative with Jerry?

You have to build the team before you can coach it.

"Jason is more of a motivator, he's not an X and O type coach"..... that's all you need to know.. motivator gets you only so far.. *claps*
All kidding aside I’d agree. Garrett’s best assets aren’t the typical Game Day coaching.

Garrett is more of a motivator and probably would make a better GM or VP

But this is reality with Jerry. Didn’t have more success with proven coaches before him.

or maybe in some form in scouting. Just because I don't like his coaching doesn't mean he doesn't have some good qualities.

What are we gonna do? It is what it is. Jerry appears intent on keeping him.

It’s why I’d swing for the fences for an elite QB or focus on building a Doomsday Defense. I don’t see how this front office and coaching staff can have much more success without it.

nothing you can do. I just watch the games and don't get emotionally involved like in the distant past.

The Eagles did it in 2 proving it doesn't take a decade or more. This team is in a constant state of rebuilding. They were rebuilding in 10, 11 12, 13 14 etc..on and on it goes. Same in 2018, no doubt 19, 20 ... . Sure would be nice to see some real expectations from the front office.

I agree. I like Dak and his conservative play, but I don't think he can win games on his own. All kidding aside, I hope the new coaches and players make a big impact this year. I think Jason is limited in some of his coaching abilities and the players and assistants will have to overcome this.

They fit the mold I’m describing . They swung for the fences hitting big on a QB and built a top 5 defense.

They also coached them there. Building is only a percentage of it.
I agree but he inherited most of that defense and went out and got a QB.

You have to have the elite talent to coach.

They didn’t need an elite OL or RB.
A QB and defense is the key.

Build me a top 5 defense and bring in an elite QB and if Garrett can’t get it done. Fire his butt.

Problem is you need the right front office to bring in the right talent in these key areas.

It’s a double whammy here. We have obstacles at each level. Amazing we’re relevant at all.

Well, more specifically, the offensive staff has a bullseye on them now.

Now, more than ever, they are going to have to game plan and scheme an offensive system that can move the ball and score points. Even with the addition of Williams along the OL, in the NFL, you can't just line up and run the ball 40 times a game and expect to win. They are going to have to come up with a passing game that meshes with Prescott and do so with a roster of #2 type and in the case of guys like Gallup, Brown, even Austin, that are unknowns.

Initial expectations around here seem to be that we should be a playoff team in 2018, however, I wonder if as the season progresses and the team scuffles, will people blame all the "new" personnel on offense.

Garrett and company have an opportunity to shut a lot of people up, including myself, if they can turn this team in a playoff team and cobble together a very good offense. Taking what we have on offense and doing that would be a very good accomplishment.

I would say Garrett & Dak are definitely in make or break year. Another bad year by either will push organization in new direction.

If Prescott can't get this team back to the playoffs with a healthy line and a full year from Elliot then he...simply...ain't...the...man. Full Stop. The scapegoat has been excised...and the putative "force-the-ball-to-Dez" offense will no longer be an excuse.

This coaching staff leaves itself open to be criticized and/or second-guessed.

The 2017 play-off game vs. Green Bay is an example where they went against their identity as a run team. Three passes on either 2nd/3rd and short. One of them ended up being an INT in the red zone. So, why not run the ball on a team that was giving up the run? Why not run it like they did against Pittsburgh at the end of the game earlier in the year? This staff is conservative by nature and sometimes to a fault so passing seemed to go against their nature.

In regards to the Hyde INT, this may be an case where the staff needs to be more aware of its tendencies? GB was just sitting on that play.

That game we still almost won. It was so badly botched by the officials. That was a game where I've never seen so many points affected by the stripes. That game wasn't even close if the refs called it fairly. We had to go to a passing game down by 3 scores. The refs put us in a huge hole. Garrett did botch the end though when we spiked the ball with 45 seconds left.

The coaching staff made more mistakes than that in the game. After the game, the Packers talked about how we telegraphed some things and didn't make a lot of changes on offense. A key play in that game was the Prescott interception by Hyde on a screen pass. Hyde said after the game we showed that play a lot on film and even ran it against them earlier in the year with the same personnel, formation, etc. He (and apparently their CB too) knew the play was coming.
