He is a 1T in the cowboys system. Depends what you mean by “true” lol
If he means a 1 that gets moved more easily than a 1 in most other teams’ systems then yes, he’s a 1.

Not what I said at all. Where in the world did you get that?
However, next season is a different story.
The person you quoted ended their post with something along the lines of 1 DL on the roster has to go....and your 1st sentence was “that 1 might actually be Irving”. Followed up by how you think Irving is “as good as gone.”
Rereading I’m guessing you were saying that Irving is the 1 guy better than McClain, but definitely threw me off the 1st read.
That one might actually be Irving. I think that if he checks out and if it is financially affordable, this is a good move. Seriously, I think Irving is as good as gone and if you bring in a guy like McClain, it makes the transition easier. I would also not trust Ward to stick. The guy has really not shown anything thus far. Taco has clearly not learned the wisdom of keeping his mouth shut so he may talk himself out of Dallas if he's not careful. Ealy is a one or two year deal and Gregory, well.... Nobody in the right mind is going to count on him to be around from one day to the next.
If the guy checks out, I don't really see a down side to it. The numbers are eventually going to take care of themselves.
It might actually be Irving eventually, like next season but that is not the same as saying he's gone today. I mean, Gregory has applied for reinstatement. He isn't even on the team at this point. The point is that there are a lot of players who may not be here in a year or even by the beginning of the season. And for the record, if we were to sign McClain, I think it does give you more flexibility and I would not at all be surprised if the Cowboys were to receive a 2nd round offer for Irvin. That I could see happening but that's not the same as saying he will not be here this season. I do believe, however, that Irving is gone. I think the Cowboys would like to see a offer for him.
Well said. Incidentally what does ABQ in your name stand for? I have always wondered that.
I would not have been surprised to see someone offer a two for Irving but I think that ship has sailed. We might be lucky to get a 4th out of him now.
I'm not sure if it would be better to take a 4th now or see what happens with him this year. I believe the Cowboys are looking to move on from him.
Is there a DT on the roster besides Irving (who is a DE imo) and Collins who McClain is not better than? Is it even close? He'd step in and immediately be the #3 DT and we can use him in a rotation to get the most from him. To be honest, I wouldn't mind a DT rotation that looks like this
3T- David Irving, Kony Ealy
1T- Maliek Collins, Terrell McClain, Brian Price
Already think we are pretty good at DE with
RDE- Tyrone Crawford, Taco Charlton, Charles Tapper, Randy Gregory
LDE- Demarcus Lawrence, Dorance Armstrong Jr.
In fact, 1 *has* to go...
They could go 10-11 if there is that much talent. Some of those DEs can play STs just as well as a LB can.I think you switch Tyrone Crawford and Kony Ealy in that list and Price is the one who is gone (assuming everyone stays healthy, which they won't). We have a lot of position flexibility in guys like Crawford, Irving, Taco, etc so going with 9 DL isn't really a problem if they want to do it.
Not to mention they got Allen last year too...To see the Commanders add Payne and Settle while we're screwing around with roster fillers makes me sick.
Rod has to go before this defense takes the next step.

I for one would approve.

Once a key piece to the Dallas Cowboys' defensive interior, the veteran defensive lineman took his talents to the rival Washington Commanders in the free agency spree that followed the 2016 season, but things didn't exactly go as planned once he arrived. On the heels of a solid stint with the Cowboys, who signed him out of the FA pool in 2014, McClain was wooed to the Commanders on a four-year, $21 million deal that lasted only one-half of the agreed-upon time. Two seasons in, he's now been released and the timing could not be better for both him and his former team in North Texas.
In dire need of a 1-tech to fill out their defensive line and after failing to draft one, seeking a reunion with McClain makes a ton of sense for the Cowboys. It's in that spirit they're not exactly being shy about the potential of seeing him again don the Star this coming season.
Define great. He was better than Hayden and Jack Crawford.McClain had a great year in 2016 his last year with the Cowboys. He got a 4 year 21 million contract from the Commanders because of it.
Seen Price and Ward play a lot have you?Even though McClain struggles to make it through a season healthy, he is much better than Price and Ward.
