This offense was easily good enough under Linehan and Garrett to win a SuperBowl 2 years ago with a 3rd string rookie QB.

Agree.. Just think what it could do with coaches that maximized talent?

I don't care if they are good enough. I don't care about Jerry Jones being comfortable with those guys.

I wan't difference making coaches. Not guys that call the most basic of gameplans.

The Cowboys just changed out the entire staff of offensive position coaches — with virtually all the new guys having had a prior relationship with Linehan.

Obviously the FO and Garrett still believe in him, and considering all the new WRs, plus a need to identify a new starting TE, Linehan’s gonna get at least this season — if not another — to prove he deserves to be the OC going forward.

We’ll see...

If the key to make this offense successful is TA type player its is going to be a long season, again. The team needs to attack at 10+ yards down the field or Zeke will need 6 OL on the field to get yards. Zeke is akin to Shaq of 90's Orlando Magic, Shaq got his but the rest of his team was easily made ineffectual.

Anyone remember playing playground football where you had a QB and 17 WR's and you pointed to a guy and traced their route on your chest? "Go to the tree and cut left."
That's our Linehan.

His OC was smart enough to give him some blocking help when he needed it
One of the greatest epic fails of all time was the inability of the coaches to adjust properly to that Atlanta situation with Chaz. They made a weak effort to give help, but were obviously focused on something else.

And on what they were focusing on, I have no idea

Im curious to hear some people’s perspective on why Scott Linehan is still calling the shots on offense in Dallas.
I know Garrett isn’t much better but let’s face it, he is a puppet who really doesn’t do anything but talk. He doesn’t call plays, formations, or really anything...

So we have lost or shown the door to offensive position coaches. Why does this guy get to keep his job?

He stood right next to JG and watched Claiborne continually sack Dak over and over and he never shown the basic common sense to change his formation to protect Green from himself. He stayed the course.

Doesn’t it seem that our offense requires our guys to be far superior talents to the opposition in order to move the ball. Has this guy earned the right to have any input on who we bring in? Are we making personnel decisions to fit his “scheme” when he shouldn’t even have a job?

Or is he really some frustrated offense genius who is being forced to run a 1992 offense by JG and the Jones boys?

We see Peyton, Peterson, MCVey, McDaniels ect scheme lesser talent open while we seem to lack the ability to make a simple effective half time adjustment.

I just don’t get it.

Interested in hearing other opinions on this guy.
I have no solid answer to "why" other than point to JJ. Throwing on third and short while Zeke runs off the field reveals everything defenses need to know to stop us and they did. Doing that once is bad enough, doing it again is worse, doing it a third time deserves suspending the play caller from the goal post by his toenails, doing it a fourth time is grounds for dismissal. Not only why is Linehan still here, how is he still here? Why aren't we putting our goalposts to better use?

His offense ranked 6th in the entire NFL in 2016.

That’s where we disagree. I believe they did maximize the talent.

I don’t believe Dak is nearly as good as the 21 tds and 4 int he put up that season. I think we got the most out of him due to game planning and strategy.

What do you do when teams figure out tendencies. That's been my complaint and a point Romo brought up recently.

2014 we caught everyone off guard.. Then 2015 happened.

2016 we caught everyone off guard.. Then 2017 happened.

Dallas has to stop playing into their tendencies or at least start using those tendencies for deceptive plays.

It seems that the O gets figured out sooner than that. Outside of 2014, points per drive dip when we get into December and on . . . .

2014 - NFL Rank 2nd (2.62) ///// December and January (3.24)
2015 - NFL Rank 27th (1.56) ///// December and January (1.20)
2016 - NFL Rank 4th (2.54) ///// December and January (2.05)
2017 - NFL Rank 9th (2.08) ///// December and January (1.54)

I question why the scheme was so "vanilla?"

Was it due to the limitations of the OC?

Or was it due to Witten's loss of speed/quickness combined with a very young QB combined with a former #1 WR who didn't have the motivation or the mental approach to improve his game.
Obviously the latter.

Philly's backup LT didn't give up 6 sacks to a journeyman DE, either.

The Atlanta game fiasco with Green was one of the worst, most embarrassing and troublesome display of coaching that I’ve ever seen. There was no excuse for that. The only credit I give Garrett for that game is that immediately afterwards he owned it. This is a make it or break it season for the HC.

I am actually curious to see what changes, if any, they have come up with for the offense. I suspect the running game won't change much but I am curious to see what kinds of changes we will see in the passing game, now that Witten and Bryant aren't there and we are likely going to a more spread it around philosophy.

Another thread that starts with the assumption the offense is an issue and ignores the obvious evidence otherwise. 2nd, 4th, 9th in points/offensive series three out of his four years.

And nobody who believes Dez and Witten have been done for a while or that Dsk sucks gets to chime in that “it’s the talent.”

Garrett doesn't have the spine to over rule him, much less replace him.

October 2016 philosophy?
