I'm glad Witten, Dez is over. Witten is so amazing as a man and motivator, he just was a liability on the field. Yeah I knew he could stick that "Y option" when he needed to, but he was everyone's 4 yard security blanket. On 3rd and 5 that doesn't matter.

If nothing else, the final spectre of Bill Parcells is gone.

Witten is going to be missed, but I am glad the era is over because it means that the Parcells era is officially over.

Sir, welcome back...assume your weekend is going great. How about Cleveland, er LeBron?

Want to give us your analysis about the draft and directions involving Dak?

While I will miss the players terribly (especially Romo and Witten), I'm glad that they both retired Cowboys and will excel in their next career for the next 20 years. I was a huge Dez fan and believer until this past season. That fumble against Seattle was absolutely unforgivable and the amount of dropped passes was unacceptable. The harsh reality is that, even though Romo and Witten are some of my favorite players in franchise history, this era was absolutely predicated and defined by mediocrity. An improbable 2007 13-3 season that ended with a Cabo trip, an awfully run Patrick Crayton route, and a RW McQuarters interception in the end zone. A 2009 season that led to our first playoff win in quite some time, the domination of the Eagles, and then a bludgeoning by an aging Brett Favre. A 2014 season that was absolutely running on all cylinders - which culminated in the NFL's leading rusher fumbling and the NFL's leading touchdown WR controversially not being able to make the play. I'm still not over 2016, but allowing Aaron Rodgers to convert on 3rd and 20? Yikes. That's not even counting the 3 straight 8-8 seasons and 3 straight losses in de-facto NFC East championship games to all three of our biggest rivals. This era is defined by not being able to win the big games. Ever. We shouldn't have even beaten the Lions in the playoffs in 2014. Good riddance.

I'm seeing a new energy with this group, and, more importantly, a lack of bloated contracts (with the exception of Tyrone Crawford). Depending on how durable this offensive line can be during the season, I firmly believe the Cowboys may be one explosive player away from advancing to a conference championship. We are drafting well and have assembled a good unit. We just need to coach them up.

this is the dynamic the jones family have created in this franchise. since we can't do anything about them (ya know the real problem), some fans have started taking it out on players...great players. players that would be champions under normal circumstances. very sad to see this.

Cowboys need to do something different thats for sure , because Romo/ Dez / Witten ERA was just not doing it . There are only 3 teams in the NFC that have not been to a NFCCG in past 20 odd years. Commanders, Cowboys and Lions. There has been one consistent thing for the Boys and the Skins through most this time.

Since last time in 1996 the numbers are

  • Packers 6
  • Eagles 6
  • 49ers 4
  • Panthers 4
  • Vikings 4
  • Falcons 4
  • Seahawks 3
  • Giants 3
  • Bears 2
  • Saints 2
  • Buccaneers 2
  • Cardinals 2
  • Rams 2
  • Lions 0
  • Commanders 0
  • Cowboys 0

I don’t care Romo should have been given his last chance in 2016 when he was healthy. I’ll never know what could’ve been. But there’s no way we would’ve lost to GB with Romo. It’s no use in arguing can’t turn back time.

I’m not blaming Dak but I do blame Garrett for all of this. The thing that sickens me is you could’ve kept Romo and Dak no problem with no cap implications. Garrett is a sick man.

The best post I have read on here.

Especially gutting as the Falcons at home were made for us. Ok the Superbowl against the Patriots is another level up but I would have loved to have found out what would have happened.

People seem to get obsessed with anyone who states the above about Romo is hating on Prescott but it has nothing to do with it.

Romo would have given us the best chance of winning that game and the Superbowl - if he got hurt then...Prescott just comes in!

Yes, thank God that Parcells era is over. That whole turning the entire direction of the team around from laughing stock to playoff contender sucked.

Not even deep inside. Right up front! Team went from an aging team to one of the youngest in 2 years. Plenty of talent. The people that wanted Romo to play again must not like him very much. He can break a clavicle announcing a game at this point.

We have crazy talent.

I just wish games were decided strictly on talent. We'd never lose.

Are you serious? I’m nervous as hell.
With Romo/Witten/Dez it was not for lack of talent that Dallas didn’t win, it was terrible luck and terrible decisions by the FO that held us back.

The talent is gone now, but the FO and coaching remain. I’m hopeful about Dak et al, but the hope with the previous generation was that they would succeed despite the FO. They didn’t, and even though the FO seems to have gotten its **** together, I’m not convinced the kids are good enough to win just yet...
13-3 without Romo just 2 seasons ago. I ag

Hear me out...I said the era not the players. I totally blame the lack of playoff success on the FO and bad coaching Not the players. But we didn't win a thing. Now with new players a new energy and focus., Garrett and the coaching staff should be on notice, win or get out. Plus I enjoy watching a young team mature and grow into winners. To many times Dallas has taken a punch and laid down. I'm excited to see what this team can do when adversity hits.
I made an observation five or six years ago that one or both Romo and/or Garrett would not be a part of any championship Dallas attained going forward. The jury is still out on Garrett, because I still think that if this team ever gets to a superbowl it might just be in spite of him rather than because of him.

This addition by subtraction mantra will be proven or disproven soon enough.

I honestly think we have more talent than we had in the Tony, Witten, Romo era. Defense, OL, RB. The only position that we fall short on is QB IMO

That's not the OPs point Zordon. The players were of course beloved by the franchise and fans alike.

We just never made it over the hump with them. One promising year after another we went down in flames.

So as much as they will be missed maybe some other formula will bring success???

I understand your thought process though I dont neccessarily believe the intent is to blame Romo, Dez and Witten.

Being a Witten fan (grew up in the same town) I am glad he retired rather than being traded or cut. I’ll make a prediction, the Cowboys will never have another tight end and as good as Witten was

Hell no. I'm sad the way it ended. I loved those players and the battles they fought and would kill to have them back in their prime, with a different GM and coaching staff (the real reason we went 8-8). I would trade what we have now for what we had then in a heartbeat, minus the coaching staff and the GM of course. God it was such a waste.
