I have to wonder out loud just how many posters here who are so sure of what the Eagles will do, we’re even alive to see a cowboy SB.
For those of you who were, congrats. For those of you who weren’t or were too young to have gone to the parade by yourselves, shut the Hell up!
I swear I hope Jerry lives to be a ripe old biblical age. Who care what your front office does when Jerry will only hire a coach capable of only kissing his wrinkled butt!

Alive for 4 SBs but I have no idea how this ties into the topic.

1. Jason Peters is 36, fat and prone to injury. Former all-pro player, yes, but he will be little more than dead cap money moving forward.

2. Salary Cap hell. They have the least available money of any team in the NFL. Cap space rolls over, so unlike other teams Phi won’t have the benefit of any rollover in ‘19.

3. Wentz won’t be the same mobile guy after ACL. As a guy who has had 4 such surgeries I know. Wentz will also be due a new contract soon.

4. Eagles invited two cancer starter-kits into their locker room. Positive locker room chemistry is vital when seasons grow long and tempers short. Michael Bennett and Jay Ajayi will prove to be subtraction by addition.

5. Malcolm Jenkins will fade. It’s what safeties do after 30.

6. Stud Brandon Graham is a free agent after this year...and Eagles will be up against cap

7. Outside of New England...what teams sustain greatness? Egos grow, malaise sneaks in.

8. Fletcher Cox is due $18 then 22$ mil over next two seasons

9. Nick Foles will return to being Nick Foles. That and the Eagles won’t be able to keep him next year...the price is $20.6 mil (they can’t afford)

10. The Eagles benefitted from using analytics to drive aggressive 4th down decisions. Many teams are poised to use same tactics. Advantage lost.

And 11: Eagles suck and their fan base destined to suffer. (the maze and its pain awaits for them to ever achieve consciousness.)

1 - I'm sure somewhere along the Peters will be released.
2 - Yes. In 2019 Eagles are in trouble - but get help in Trading Foles and releasing Peters. But will still be about 30 million over for 2019.
3 - Wentz will be fine. As long as he does not go RGIII he will be good.
4 - I think the coach has a lot to do with this. Knowing how to separate them or silence them.
5 - We will see.
6 - Yes. Tough decisions in Eagles CAP coming.
7 - You never know - at least they will be very good in 2018.
8 - Yes. They are stuck with that contract. If he goes down. Ouch.
9 - Foles will be traded for pick when Wentz gets to 100%.
10 - Maybe not. Can teams defense those plays.
11 - Yes. Eagles fan base has suffered. Yes they could be in for problems in 2019.

Howie has that under control. Since the cap came to be we never have issues with it. And we won’t next year either.

I just read that the Eagles currently sit $30 million OVER the cap for 2019...and that’s before they sign a single draftee or free agent.

Compare that to Dallas which sits at $50 million UNDER the 2019 cap.

Brandon Graham is gone for sure...as he’ll be a free agent over 30. If the Eagles do keep Foles through this year he will also be a near-certain cap hit. There will be other cut-backs required.

Your right. I read where the Eagles over estimated how much it was going to go up this year and in 2-3 years they will have only 66 mil compare to the Cowboys 200mil to spend. They are going to have to cut or ask a lot of players to take pay cuts especially with Wentz's contract coming up. The nightmare scenario is Wentz signs a huge contract than gets a career ending injury but that is for any team.

This thread sounds like its for 2019 and beyond, not this year.

Anyway, they won it all, but dont seem like some dominant franchise.
Not saying they wont be very good, but they seem like one of 7-8 contenders.
No more, no less

But the solution is effective drafting. They'll be able to manage the cap even with the upcoming huge contracts if they can churn older, higher priced players with lower cost draftees on their initial contract. Of course, the issue is they have to be willing to let those high contract vets walks while they're still productive (a/k/a "The Patriot Way").

And that is the problem they might run into. The drafting has to be very good since they will lose experience. They put all their chips in and it worked.

Yep. The Rams are doing the same thing, who knows if it works for them. I think they're doing it for a secondary reason - to generate interest to fill their new stadium when it opens. It's why Jerry hired Parcells and Jerry was instrumental in the Rams moving to LA.

Very thin line.

Philly was SO close to being one and done in the playoffs last year vs Atlanta.
People forget that with a minute left in a 15-10 game, Atlanta had the ball on the Philly 2 yard line
It obviously didnt, but it VERY easily could've gone the other way.

Don't know why your panties are in such a wad with your wonderment and all. Pretty uncouth coming over here telling Cowboy fans to "shut the Hell up" though ... no matter what their opinion is. This is first and foremost a Cowboy fan site.

I was alive for all their SB's and the 2 NFL championship games. Watched them all.

Where are you getting this 30m$ number for the eagles?

https://overthecap.com/calculator/philadelphia-eagles/

Foles is 20 of that 30 million and Peters is 10 of it. Hey look, problem solved. How the heck? Howie Roseman.

Isn't this the NFL in a nutshell? Hell almost every time we play Rodgers it goes down like this, but what you didn't say is what makes the NFL soo GOOOD.

Sportrac has them $45 million over in 2019, and I have found Sportrac to be the more reliable of the 2 major salary cap tracking sites, but I suppose this is a situation where people will believe what they want.

Philly is going to learn that it is very, very hard to stay on top. The league is set up to punish winners. Your players tend to want more money so you can’t keep them all. Coaches get better offers from other teams and move on (they’ve already lost their OC). And last but not least, you get the worst draft position of the 32 teams.

You gotta give credit where it’s due for (finally) getting that ring. But going forward, I just don’t see the Eagles as being good enough to break the streak of 13 years with a repeat champion, and the long term future is even more foreboding.

So you think they are magic?

There are a lot of good reason to think the Eagles will slide a bit not the least of which will be there schedule. They aren't magic but they have much smarter people than we do solving problems. And FYI: Peters was out after week 7 last year. I know its hard , as a cowboy fan, to imagine a back-up tackle coming in and the offense not backsliding, but thats what the good teams are able to do.
