I am with you. Maybe I will boycott on the 3 weekends that the Cowboys are not on in my area!

That has the same effect- 1 less viewer.

I do truly wish fans could organize a boycott Sunday for more reasons than what you mentioned - that would make an impact! That would be a great thing!!!

I'd sign up for that!

Meh, maybe. Do they still count for ratings?
IDK but they are on network so should count for something directly with revenue.

I haven’t missed a regular season or playoff game in at least 53 years but I have exhibition games as we used to call them.

Does boycotting preseason games count? Lol
I do not see why preseason games would not count. The commissioner presides over all games. I think the league will be rocked to its foundation if enough viewers tune out preseason games featuring players who will not make their teams' regular season rosters.

Goodell may never recover from the aftershock. He might even suspend himself to escape the backlash. Now that would be ironic.

Boycott if you wish. I just don't get the drama behind needing to announce it. Just leave. If your absence is felt, it will eventually be noticed without you drawing attention to it.

lol. I tried the same argument out back in '05 on this very site. Dozens upon dozens of members have discarded variations of it ever since, so I wish you lots of luck getting steadfast boycotters into considering it.

I’m ok with fans making their announcement . In their passionate way are looking for others to join in the movement which is a natural means to cummunicate their grievances to gain more support by others who could be moved in the same manner.

It is a Message Board......we all post our opinions about everything

It is like giving someone the finger......it is meaningless unless they see it......

A bunch of 'meaningless' personal boycotts have added up to a 20% ratings drop the last 2 years

Someone is listening very intently

Individuals feel inclined making grand yet empty announcements on fansites such as CowboysZone. How many examples must someone witness hearing or reading other people state they will boycott before conceding the futility of organizing a movement with this particular repetitive effort? Countless?

Successful internet and/or social media campaigns are a matter of record. The integral element of such movements is planned focused organization.

In my opinion, such efforts could be better re-directed toward either internet sites already established and dedicated for boycotting or creating sites essentially for that sole goal. Such sites would attract like-minded individuals and could potentially build upon themselves.

In time, that effort could spark a real movement. It has happened before. However, it does not happen on places such as this. CowboysZone and similar sites are basically stress relievers and coping mechanisms--not exactly launching points for practical large-scale and self-sustaining public dissent desiring tangible change.

You know you have a juggernaut of a product when your customers get extremely angry at you, but only boycott 18.75% of your offering.

That's like boycotting McDonald's by ordering a 6 pc. and 4 pc. McNuggets instead of two 6 pc. McNuggets.

Right..

We had over 10,000 season ticket holders boycott moving to new stadium and meetings with Jerry, his kids and city officials. We obviously see how much impact that made. Lol

Good news or bad news depending on how you look at it there are less individual fans who bought season tickets and more corporate which unfortunately has led to all the opposing fans in attendance. Most of the old diehard locals listened to us. There were very few who made the move to new stadium. Most were sold to new season ticket holders and business.

I am boycotting NFL for three games this season. I let the NFL office know as well and I encourage others to do the same...let your $s speak. Zeke gets a 6 game suspension, in a case that was thrown out of court, police closed the case, she retracted her story and NFLs own investigator said, they shouldnt' suspend.

then Winston does the same, lies, then admits to it, and gets a 3 game suspension, although NFLs own POLICY says, minimum 6 games.

what gives? of course we know that was Goodell getting even with Jerry for challenging him.....

so for three weekends, they don't get me to watch their commercials...

so NFL will probably say, ***.... so I wrote their advertisers as well. Budweiser, etc.

will it amount to anything? maybe, maybe not...but NFL depends on me the fan, and when me the fan is unhappy, NFL will know....they are not the king of the hill, they exists, because I exist.

I'll do you one better - I'll be boycotting all 256 games this season.

In other words your no longer a NFL fan? Or just taking this year off?

I’m curious what you’ll watch instead. No, never mind . Lol

No longer an NFL fan. I'm tired of Goodell's/the owners' dealings with players with suspensions and the like, tired of the blatant disregard of the seriousness of CTE, and have been overwhelmingly tired with the general fanbase of the league at large and the media that covers football for a while, among other issues -- especially officiating.

The treatment of Zeke's case really did it for me but I was just limping along on life support. I don't find the game entertaining anymore.

I'll probably watch more hockey. The playoffs were really exciting. I'll also catch up on reading that I've been putting off for over a decade and spend more time watching movies.

I'll watch most of the 256 games, and I may get a jersey and some other merchandise, but I'm not buying any NFL teams this year out of protest.

Not buying a $99 jersey or skipping a few games won't hurt them at all, but not spending $2.5 billion on a team will force them to notice my protest.

Im all for fringe fans hopping off. Anything to lower the price . Last year Direct TV even gave me the Sunday Ticket free along with Showtime to boot as business was off so much. First time I’ve got in free in years.

I remember when it was $49 a year and has skyrocketed with Fantasy firkin football fans.. boooo... to $249 a year.

This recent decline actually gets their attention but 8-9% isn’t enough. I’m expecting some of that to return without the visual they had last year that ran them off.

But the NFL can afford to lose millions of fans and billions of revenue which I think would be not only healthy for the league but the fans.

A correction should help the league realize they need to pay attention to what they’re doing and there is a ceiling after record growth for decades.

I don't know if this was supposed to respond to me, but I was certainly not a fringe fan.

That said, I think one of their biggest problems is the way the game is officiated. They need to make two major changes in order to make the product on the field better to watch (aside from just having less commercials, which they will never do):

1. Institute a 15-yard penalty for leaving your feet to make a tackle. Rugby tackles only.

2. Abolish the Illegal Contact penalty -- there is no reason that a hand on a WR's back on the opposite side of the field from where the action is should result in an automatic first down, or yardage at all. It's ridiculous and does not allow the defenders to play defense -- so much so that they fall back on launching themselves like missiles since they cannot make any contact with the ball carrier or receiver until he's already made the catch in stride.

These changes will (a) bring exciting, aesthetically pleasing defense back to the game and (b) force offensive coordinators and coaches to actually take more downfield risks that do not involve pick plays and encourage a return to the ground game as a hallmark of calling a balanced offense.

There will be no rule changes that don't increase the amount of subjectivity introduced into the game.

As an ex-DE, I'm still wondering how we find ourselves in a position where the rules dictate that the only safe place to hit the QB is in his junk.
