There is no way to know if we will win the super bowl this year or not. We are in the mix, even though we are not currently a favorite.

Lawrence is a good player. He might be more than a good player. It's conceivable he could be an exceptional player. The problem is it's pretty much just a projection at this point because there is not enough of a track record of above average play.

If you have to grade Lawrence currently you have to factor in everything from his prior three years which drags the average down. I would like to keep him. I would not like to break the bank or overpay to keep him.
Then we should have let him walk, but now we have committed $17 million towards him with $20 million being the price tag next year for a player with question marks.

Just don't do it. I'd prefer *ever*, but certainly not this year.

His performance tanked in the back half of last season. Once teams treated him like an elite DE, he showed he couldn't play like one.

He's got 3 red flags
1) suspension history
2) back injury history
3) severely declining performance in the back half of last year

If he stays healthy and matches last year's performance, then think about it. But not until he's knocked down a couple of those red flags. No way.
If he stays healthy and matches next year’s performance be will want $20 million a year.

Her will have red flags and the same risks will be there. Cowboys should have crapped or got off the pot. $17 million of cap space is being flushed right down the crapper this year.

Cowboys were dumb, Lawrence was smart.

They spent more cutting DWare than keeping him

DMurray and RLeary flat out weren't worth what they got....5/42m for Murray and 5/35m for Leary was a joke

Just like 5/45m for Hitchens

And I think we did just fine with their replacements.....Zeke, Connor Williams and LVE

I don't disagree that they weren't worth what they got, but part of the reason they weren't is because paying that amount would go more against the salary cap than the Cowboys wanted. A team has to decide when and where and how to use its salary cap dollars, and as long as a team can get adequate replacements at a lower price they can stay comfortably under the salary cap and still be competative. That's what the Cowboys have done.

I probably would have tried to trade him for draft pick compensation for where we currently are. But I think the team, as assembled, is much closer to winning a SB than most others do.

If Lawrence turns into DWare (and he proves it this year, then we can either sign him long term, or really make out like bandits in a trade scenario. I really think this is a real possibility. I think that's why we have put so much RSS at the end position.

We will go long at DE barring something unforeseen happening, or all of the guys just not panning out.

We can't trade him until we Tag him at 21m

If he has a good or great year then we are screwed on his contract......you cannot set the Franchise Tag as the floor for negotiations

Would be a moronic decision to sign him long term after only 1 year of production and a history of back injury

But, watch this FO do it and watch CZ homies applaud that as a great decision
And watch the same whiny *****es do their same whiny ***** thing.

REPORT: DeMarcus Lawrence Wants a 5-Year Extension From the Cowboys

http://www.12up.com/posts/6110311-r...source=app&utm_medium=share&utm_campaign=post

A 5-year extension on his contract puts him at 31 years old when he's eligible to become an unrestricted free agent.

I don't know how many defensive ends are entering their prime that Dallas would be able to add to the roster who are available. With David Irving almost assuredly seeing his last days in a Cowboys uniform, I think this is an easy deal to get done with Lawrence. Surely the money would be structured in such a way that a release after years 3 or 4 of the contract would not cripple the cap.
