And they caught hell for Steel Wheels with many critics mentioning "it's over and here's the sign", especially Rolling Stone mag.
The same thing happened to "that li'l ole band from Texas" when they decided to add some electronics, "how dare they" screamed the purists.
I have always been on the other side of that with bands that I like. Wanna step out and try something a little different? Even if I don't like that as well, I am still fine with a band stretching their creativity. I can grow with them and let them take me someplace I haven't been before.
It's like Brian Fallon of Gaslight Anthem and Brandon Flowers of The Killers on their solo albums, it is still those easily recognizable voices but the work is attached to one artist and they can go back to their bands with no damage done to the purists.

If the Stones tried to play that song live today it would sound terrible. That song is for the youth to play, young bands should cover it.

For sure man. I was just thinking how cool it is when you grow up and go through life changes with artists like the Beatles (together and solo) or The Stones or Springsteen, etc.
Saint of Me, Almost Hear You Sigh, Anybody Seen My Baby.....just can't get enough of them lately.
Brian Fallon is great. Saw him at a very tiny venue called The Kessler Theater in Dallas/Bishop Arts a few month ago. Love his Painkillers album.

"Anybody Seen My Baby" is the one they got nailed for copyright infringement with KD Lang's "Constantly Craving" but she didn't want to sue them and they apologized profusely and gave her credit on the following printings. I am not a KD Lang fan but my wife liked her music but that song, "Constantly Craving", has an infectious melody that could easily lodge in someone's unconscious.
I don't think Harrison meant to rip off "He's So Fine" for "My Sweet Lord" but they listened to so much American music, I am surprised they didn't do it more. That's a lot of melodies and riffs bouncing around their noggins.

Didn't know that! I prefer ASMB to CC for sure. I love a lot of musicians that rip off other musicians, intentionally or not. Oasis & Led Zep have a bit of a reputation for it early on. It's so hard though. I mean, there's only 12 notes so there's bound to be overlap when you consider the sheer size and history of the music industry.

So many great memories.
As kids all we needed were some friends, a few girls, maybe a 6 pack or two, a few spliffs and the Rolling Stones.
Be it a parents house, someones first apartment, a camp in the woods, or a summer night on the beach around a campfire, the Stones were a thread that just seem to weave tightly through our lives.
Can't tell you how many times we talked about jumping in a car and trying to find Keith's home in upstate New York
