Hard not to get excited about Armstrong

Just a thought- if Armstrong and Taco Charlton both turn out to be the real deal.....can we trade D-Law to the Jets for a 1st round pick?

And with our other first round pick, maybe get Aaron Donald from the Rams? With Lawrence gone the Cowboys would be up to over $31 million of cap space.

Sorry, I'm just pulling stuff out of the air.

We can just sign Lawrence and get 4 years of (hopefully) quality pass rushers too

I try not to get my hopes up after limited exposure to a player. Everyone has been pimping out Armstrong after one solid preseason game but I was able to maintain tempering my expectations.

Then this was posted:

Check out that ankle flexibility. Holy cow. For those that dont know, most rookies shouldnt be able to do that, especially not 4th rounder who didnt drop from off field issues.

Here's a snapshot:

Yep its obvious this kid is good. He has all the quickness and bend that Taco simply doesnt. Good players show up.

Agree..which is why I think Taco is better as a DT.

Not sure what he is at this point. Doesnt get the push. Hard to see him holding up in the middle there. Hes a project backup right now. Definitely not a natural pass rushing RDE.

I've been thinking about the Lawrence question.

What do they do with him long-term?

I would think much of it depends on how the young guys progress.

If they progress well, I could see the Cowboys letting Lawrence go after the '19 season... And if the young guys looked great maybe after the '18 season.

If they don't progress much? Then the Cowboys will be forced to sign him long-term. Just don't want the Cowboys to have to sign him because there's no one else that can supply consistent pass rush.

It comes down to you can't keep'em all.

It'll be interesting on how it plays out.

A DE who doesn't have great quickness can still be a good pass rusher utilizing other facets like power and leverage.

I'd hold off burying Taco at DT too quickly.
He's only played his rookie season, flashed later on in the season, and has had a strong camp. Where the hell this guy gets criticism at this point in his infant-career is missed by me. Several posters here have seen to it to bring him down. Like he was a dud last season, and isn't showing glimpses of continued growth. And before he's even played a snap his year two -- CowboysZone...

True, but Taco isnt very powerful at this point. And he is raw in technique and moves. Did you see those chicken legs?

There was a 10+ page thread in Draft Zone on this guy, with people swearing up and down he was a blown pick. Much like when we drafted Hitchens, and certain ppl saying he'd never start or get another contract, cough.

That's funny to me.

I’ll be brutally honest. I don’t know anyone past the first two rounds. Dorance Armstrong might as well have been Florence Legweak.

Listen to yourself talk about him. "hes showing GLIMPSES of continue growth"

Then go listen to people talk about Armstrong. Watch them both play. Big big difference. Taco has NOT had a strong camp. That is a myth. Early in camp he was getting pancaked by Chaz green and practice squad TE's. Then they finally showed a clip of him finally doing something and getting a sack in practice. Then the articles came out because of that one play. Watched the SF over and over and watched him specifically. Nothing impressive.

And the return of Gregory and the emergence of Armstrong have all but relegated him to project backup. Both those guys are natural pass rushers and better than chicken legs fajita.
