I'd feel a whole lot better with Rico and Dez

Now people like Rico again? Looool I saw him and Dak his rookie year, and I knew right then he was a good TE for Dak to throw to. They had a real nice report going, and it was smooth. Been laughing the whole time listening to the Dallas press pundits, and reading things about “He’s slow as molasses” nonsense. So what if he’s not an all around TE and needs work? I don’t care, the guy is working at it,makes plays, and Dak likes throwing to him. That’s what matters, not his skill set numbers at some combine dash. Broaddus and all those guys can go stick it on that one. But as for Dez? No thanks...that trains left the station.

Daaaang.... that didn’t look like a pipe dream joke to me. Grabbed that rabbit out of the hat,and turned up field no problem. That’s what’s up. Nope,I think he’s staying right here and some people over at Cowboys Break and Talkin are going to owe him some apologies. Like anyone really think the staff is going to say..”Yeah I’m sorry kid,it’s just a numbers crunch thing, and we really like what Swaim and the others offers us for the package we run. But hey kid, keep working at it,and maybe we can bring you back to the PS,or you’ll land up on another club and do great there. Jim’s got your bags and some paper work for you to sign on the way out,and we wish you the best Rico.” Looool

Agreed. I’m not buying the nonsense about Rico. He’s clearly a pass-catching threat unlike any other TE we have on this roster.

Straight up....people just buy into popular opinion talk on the net,but they don’t know this kid. Like I said, sure he needs work, but so what? The dude is a baller!!! We simply don’t have nothing like that in the others, and they desperately need playmakers in the offense. People can argue all they want, but that was a big time money play on a busted pass, turned into a big gain. When the stafff reviews film tomorrow and see that? He’s staying.

Yeah, quick trigger finger on my part. I had to leave with a few minutes left in the game but just looked at the box score to see 2 catches. My bad.

I'm changing my opinion on the TE's a bit after this game, I thought Jarwin would start and Swaim would be traded so they could keep Gathers as the 3rd TE. But tonight I'm thinking Jarwin isn't quite ready and Schultz is definitely not ready so they need Swaim as an OK, not great, starter at TE. That would leave Rico off the roster, hopefully he can make the PS again and improve his attitude and blocking.
I thought Shultz looked pretty good. Caught the ball well and even turned up field and got some yards a few times. Didn't see an issue with Jarwin either. The big thing here is we haven't seen our TEs do much because of Witten in a very long time. This is new and I think all 4 have good traits that can help us win. Just have to put each of them in a position to succeed

It's a weak spot on the roster, for sure.
Can't have all-pro at every spot on the team. Those 4 TEs are good enough to get the job done and will produce for us. We are a run first team and most likely have less than 25 passes a game

If Dez wasn't washed up because of poor work ethic, he's about to turn 30 so pretty soon it's not gonna matter how much effort he puts in. Nobody is dying to sign a lazy, 30-year-old WR who hasn't produced for 3 years.

Provided he ever finds a team, he'll almost certainly never have another season like he had in 2012, 2013, or 2014. He is the epitome of wasted talent. The only list he's going to show up on after his "official" retirement is a list of players who could have been so much better.

I feel like 5 or 10 years from now there will still be some holdouts who are like:

Man, if only Dez could recapture the magic from 10 or 15 seasons ago, Dallas would be set

If not, I'll start that thread just to take the level of ridiculousness from 8 to 10.

Of course not, but you'd probably like the best player at any position to have at least taken a regular season snap by year 3 of his career. Hell, he has as many regular season snaps as any of us do and only 11 more preseason catches. Only difference is we don't have 3 years of experience.

Swaim has played in the regular season and has caught passes as well. He has more regular season snaps then everybody on this board put together

For those who haven't noticed the C-boys' latest depth chart, Rico is listed our #3 TE, ahead of Dalton Schultz, according to Ourlad's.
You use Ourlads too? I love their depth chart updates. It’s always more accurate than everyone else.

And yet he supposedly is not the best TE on the roster because Rico is?

If the best thing you can say about Swaim is that he has more snaps than this board, how is my statement about the TE position weak incorrect?

Yes, I've been checking with their roster and depth charts for years now.

They're really excellent about keeping their info accurate and up to date.

He is suddenly going to start getting seperation now?

He is suddenly going to train to get those high throws like he USED to do?

He is suddenly going to stop being a distraction?

He is suddenly going to start running crisp routes?

There are several reasons he isn't signed now. And he isn't coming back to the Cowboys. Thank goodness.

Dez was released on April 13th. 12 days later, it was reported he'd turned down an offer from the Ravens. Dez isn't unsigned because no one was interested. Dez is unsigned by his own choice.

Having said that, the situation between Dallas fans and Dez Bryant reminds me of the classic line about pretty girls. No matter how beautiful a girl is, somewhere there is someone tired of putting up with her crap.

Rico is a receiving threat, a natural athlete, an amazing weapon for the passing game and one of a kind TE talent. If he somehow gets cut, he will get picked up by another team and succeed elsewhere. Sort of like when the Minnesota Twins gave up on David Ortiz, then he got picked up by the Red Sox and the rest is history.

And also Dez would make our offense so damn amazing right now. My heart still aches from that roster move. Dez, Gallup, TWill, Cole and Rico. With this line, with Zeke, with Dak, and now with our amazing defense. What a waste!

Rico helped himself with that ball he took from the defender. That was a big time catch. That was concentration, body control, improvisation, and hands. Two preseasons in a row where he makes a big time catch in preseason. If we don't keep him, he gets snapped up instantly.

Just learn to block, Rico. Blocking gets you on the field, particularly with this TE group. Then we can throw you up a few balls.

As for Dez, he's not looking at much of a contract today. 6 mil? Less? If we could have gotten him for that in March, that would have been great. But his contract needed to go. And with training camp done, the Dez drama, and our WRs showing improvement, the Dez ship has sailed.
