Looking at the list of projected Comp Picks on overthecap, how is Minnesota getting a 3rd rounder for Keenum when they signed Cousins to that monster deal in free agency?

And why are we not projected to get one for Hitchens? I understood that the deal he received in KC would net us a 4th round comp pick.

Minn lost two QBs that signed qualifying deals.

Dallas was slated to get a 4th but several of the former Cowboys that signed qualifying deals were cut so Dallas right now has a net gain of qualifying free agents. If they cut Thompson by a certain date, they will get the 4th back.

Seems like a no-brainer. If someone offered me a 4th for Thompson today, I'd take it and run.

Maybe this is why Butler was signed. He is Thompson's replacement.

Is it only Thompson that can be cut? After the first couple of weeks, I'd say Hurns should be the one to go.

I had already brought this up at the beginning of last week.

It got buried because people wanted to make 50,000 threads about how bad we sucked and none of them ant different than the rest.

Yes its only Thompson that can be cut for us to retrieve the 4th round comp. And it must be done before week 10.

I guess we'll see where our record is at near week 10 and how well Thompson has been doing. He's shown some promise.

Hurns wasn’t a qualifying free agent. He was cut. I think Thompson may be the only one left but I’m not 100% sure.

Is overthecap wrong though? I mean, we already cut him, so I don't see why cutting him again would make a difference

My guess is that Thompson is on the chopping block by week 10 (unless the front office is truly that inept). The risk they run is that they use him up until then to "get their money's worth" and he suffers an injury. Maybe Thompson is savvy enough to pull a hammy week 9 so he can collect the rest of his salary.

Him or Fleming are the only 2. Very convenient we have until week 9 to figure it out, but to me it would be pretty dumb to let a 4th round pick fly out the window. Don’t know if either Fleming or Thompson will be on the team next year, let alone into the future. The late 4th at least has a shot to be a solid cheap contributor for 4 years

This is what I thought as well.
I am logically where you guys are on this.
Thompson was cut and now makes the vet min which isn't a Qualifying number.
I don't know we will know the actual truth until the picks are announced because the exact formula has never been released.
NO ONE has been 100% accurate on Com pick guesses. NO ONE.

DAL cut Thompson then started him week 1 and 2.
That tells me they thought it mattered quite a lot to cut him.
A lot more than merely getting Noah Brown to IR.
I posited at the time this was a clear attempt to play the comp pick game and ensure that R4 pick but others disagree.
We shall see.

Yes, don't see the point of cutting him otherwise as you rightly suggest.
