OL has been dominant running the ball

When we dumped all our receivers and drafted OL early, I thought our plan was to replicate what worked for us in 2014 and 2016 with a dominant running game. Especially with the defense we have now, we could've controlled the ball a lot. I don't know what we're doing only running 15 times a game. We ran Murray and Zeke almost 30 times, even when it wasn't working.

@AdamJT13 would tell us that this stat doesn't mean much and passing efficiency is what wins.

Passing efficiency is what wins!

Pretty funny that the top 4 teams on the list are a combined 5-7 right now. Meanwhile the teams with the 4 best QBs (by QBR) are 10-2.

so then super dak just need to be able to throw it 5 yards, but since he can't he needs to run more.

Time of possession
Play Action
Run Game
No offensive turnovers

These are the reason we produced in previous couple years, and can still be possible this year.

Anytime we get a run for 0-4 yards doesn’t mean it has to be followed up by a pass every time...

And that works for them!! We are a different team! Teams don’t follow others to win championships! They make their own way and dominate in it!

I believe we can dominate in a certain form on the field if used right. It may not be pretty, and it may not be about what this day and age of football is about (Scoring & Highlights) but it can cause us to win games!

Which if I’m honest I don’t really want because I hate Garrett and think we will never do anything with him as a coach. But anyways, it’s possible...

We have one playmaker on this offense, no matter how you look at it. We only have one. Austin is to inconsistent to be counted, Beasley only makes routine catches he should make.

Zeke is the one guy we have that can break a game for us and if used right he could open the play-action which can be lethal to defense. I honestly see it as our only option, i may be pushing on points on that you don’t see eye to eye on me with. But this is the only way I can see us salvaging this season.

If you run well but fail to score points then you will still lose.

I agree running well can help you score points in some circumstances but you must have a passing attack or you are one dimensional and teams will attack the run and take that away or let you run without scoring points like the last game.

The numbers are inflated, the run game had 1 good game, Seattle and then add Dak option runs vs Giants, Austins sweeps.

Zeke had 4.6 ypc against NY and CAR. 7.9 against SEA. Run him.
Dak and Austin should always be part of the run game. They're also effective.

Olawale, 10% of snaps.
Swaim, 92% of snaps. We're playing Swaim like he's Witten. "Next man up."

I'd rather have Olawale instead, blocking/running/catching.

Our strength is running. We should do it. The more threats on the field for a run, the more teams have to shift attention away from Zeke. That's another way to beat stacked boxes. Make some of that box pay attention to someone besides Zeke.

I don't look at yards per carry, it doesn't tell the whole story. It hasn't been effective when it needed to be. I think Alfred Morris averaged about 4 yards a carry last season, but how effective was it?

Pretty telling how the Cowboys are neglecting to exploit the talents of the best player they have.

We have by far the highest average per carry and by far the highest run DVOA this season but one of the worst passing offenses in the league. You tell me which one is more indicative of our ability to score points.

You know I haven’t posted on here in a while, but I still look through the forum every now & then. But when I seen this post I had to reply...

Because one thing that really aggravates me from the last game is the run game, or lack there of.

It’s not because lack of production but lack of commitment!!

If you go back and watch that game and you will see that the cowboys passed the ball on 1st down 80% of the time! But the times they ran it on first down they consistently got good yards, that was also when Zeke broke a couple decent runs.

But what did the cowboys do? They went right back to the pass game or never even tried to run it. Zeke has 13 Carries midway through the 3rd quarter... 13 Carries!!!

2016-2017 year when we went 13-3.. what did the cowboys do?

They ran to set up the pass! There was even talk about if we were running Zeke too much... but what did we do? We Won!!

It’s so simple that it’s driving me mad!!
bingo

this Is a passing league your points come from the passing game good qb play is a must in the nfl if you are going to win that's the bottom line the cowboys ran for over 160 yards total against seattle and lost badly until the qb starts playing well the the passing game gets going you are stuck in the mud

Using nothing but Dallas' ranks in offensive passing and rushing DVOA since 2013, see if you can pick out the good, bad and average seasons.
  • 2013: 5th rushing, 10th passing
  • 2014: 3rd rushing, 4th passing
  • 2015: 9th rushing, 32nd passing
  • 2016: 2nd rushing, 3rd passing
  • 2017: 2nd rushing, 18th passing
  • 2018: 1st rushing, 29th passing

It's definitely a commitment problem. If they would understand who they are and stick to it, other parts of the game should open up (play-action, RPO).
Stop making sense, no one wants to hear that.
