Do Cowboys need to consider firing OL coach Paul Alexander?

It’s never going to happen as long as Jerry is alive. The guy isn’t going to change.

I know. What stumps me is how fast he got rid of these other coaches and this goof ball makes all kinds of coaching errors that even little league coaches shake there heads at and is the laughing stock of all league coaches.

When you are in Cincy the bar is real low. Maybe that is why he was able to hang around so long. I will tell you this and there is no denying it...the OL has been terrible. It isn't age. It isn't injury. The starting 5 week 1 is still the starting 5 and it has been real bad 6 out of the 7 weeks. With all they have invested on that line the results are inexcusable.

Alexander sucks. Plain and simple.

I'm not firing him because (obviously) we don't know the other 90% of what goes into coaching the line other than gameday

It's more logical to me that Fredbeard is way more important than just being an all-pro blocker
he called blocking assignments for Zeke and pass protection and that has been pretty bad especially at critical moments
Alexander may or may not be the best thing out there but he does have like 20 years experience. then he brought in that other specialist (who sucks too?) Colombo is still actively coaching so that just leads me to believe instead of the fan/media favorite option of pointing the finger at 1 guy, it is prob multiple things. like the rookie, losing Fred and the drop-off in smarts to Looney
if you've followed Travis' history you know he is very, very, intelligent with 2 major degrees and that Dak admits to leaning on him since the beginning
throw in Tyron not being healthy and you get your disaster

I mean, it could be that Paul Alexander sux bro
but I doubt it

with that much talent on the line from years past I don't think even a poor OL coach would make them fall apart that quick much less a highly experienced coach

plus Zach has been injured too and was close to missing time... just very unfortunate chain of events imo

Does he have Looney playing well? I think overall he has hurt the line, but Looney is filling in nicely so far. The bigger question is, what do you do with Tyron?

Our OL has started slow each of the last three seasons. It’s not just Alexander. Take Frederick out and put a rookie in at LG and it’s not all that surprising.

What’s hurt us is both OTs have had their consistency drop off significantly.

That said, Alexander doesn’t seem to have had a positive impact anyplace. I thought he was an upgrade coming in, but our OL isn’t the force it used to be by any measure.
You also have to throw inexperienced TEs into the blocking mix. They have been inconsistent and we've seen them miss blocks or assignments as well

When a player fails to execute, is that the fault of the coach or the player?
There have been plenty of missed assignments that players failed to execute, but there has also been curious schemes too. Against Houston, we had Hurns blocking Clowney 1on1, we had 5 lineman blocking 3 players, 1 single blocking the other 4 dbl teaming 2 guys with none of them going to the second level, giving their LBs open gaps to stop plays. Against the Seahawks, we continually left their probowl LB Wagner, unblocked quite a bit. We've had Looney dbl team with Zack, while poor Williams was getting mauled on solo blocks.

Then you see things like this and wonder what's going on, was this really the assignment or did a player mess up, really hard to tell.

And by measure we mean the most expensive.

Thus far, the Dallas Cowboys’ 2018 season has been a herky-jerky ride that has left the organization at a crossroads.

Now sitting at 3-4, the Cowboys head into the Week 8 bye with more questions than answers. In this series, we’ll look at the four biggest questions surrounding the team as they move into their second-half of the schedule.

Part 1: How big of an impact can Cooper’s have on the passing game?
Part 2: Is it time for Paul Alexander to go?
Part 3: Is Dak Prescott a viable long-term solution?
Part 4: How many wins does Jason Garrett need to return?

Siap... Eatman was hinting the other day that Alexander hasn't hit it off all that well with the OL players.

I'm just not persuaded you can assess a coach very well when he loses an all-pro and also has a rookie he's grooming.

Bengals fans are loving Frank Pollack...who many blamed for the OL's struggles without Tyron last year. Alexander may not be the answer but either way, it all points back to Garrett and his "system"

I really, really hate how we bring WRs into the oline to block. All we're accomplishing is further crowding the box.

The best block is making the defender cover you on the sideline.

But yeah, I think it was against Houston where we had our olinemen double teaming dlinemen while leaving others free. Martin in double teams. What is that about? Why waste our best lineman on a double team and leave other linemen entirely uncovered?

Whoever is responsible should be fired. Is that Alexander, or Linehan?

PFF has our OLine ranked at #11 after week 6. I don’t think we’re that high but at least top 15.

Aaron Rodgers is making his junky line work with one good leg and Byron Bell.

Drew Brees is about to make his line work with Chaz Green

Bell wouldn't have been protecting Cam for three seasons if there was a lot of talent to go around. They weren't actually trying to kill him--it just seemed that way. It takes a large investment to build and maintain a strong line.

Need to get Callaghan back as OC and have a play caller similar to what we have on D with Richard.

I am trying to figure out if there is something seriously wrong with the OL as to why it's basically on top of Dak after 2 seconds, or whether Dak starts the shotgun too close with the ball in his mouth.

In regards to Smith, he's too busy looking at who's bull rushing Williams on his inside. At least get a TE over there.

You do know who is now coaching that OL?

Frank Pollack. Yes that Frank Pollack our Oline coach we fired!
We'll said. We had the best o-line coach in the game and fired him. He had Collins playing all world by seasons end last year.. He was our best position coach.
