He's missed on some players but nobody can say Will Mcclay is not earning his paycheck.

Who else on the Cowboys staff has more player evaluation skills than him. And even more impressive is his ability to influence Jerry.

Listen I'm all for keeping this guy long term. He cannot leave our staff.

As another poster have said, our college scouting has actually been very good these last 5 years, but our pro scouting has been lacking. Even when we bargain-shop for free agents, we end up paying 3 years 10 million to bums like Nolan Carroll. I think we literally cut him after 2 games.

We've done such a good job avoiding the "Nolan Carolls" of the draft where we overpay for crappy players like Escobar. But we just can't get that monkey off our back in pro free agency.

The evaluation after some of these players are on the field is my issue. He has a hand in that see his comments about Dez. The fact that the whole WR corps took a step back last year and this year, and yet they refuse to address the elephant in the room speaks volumes.
What Elephant?

Now they will try to throw Will McClay under the bus, whatever it takes to save Garrett's bum .
Shameless .

Will McClay evaluates talent, he will not coach Amari Cooper day in day out .

Dandy Don 52,

He said Cooper can beat press coverage and they look for that in a receiver.

He said Cooper runes good routes and gets separation.

He said Cooper ran a 3.6 forty coming in. I want sure if that meant coming in to Dallas or the league.
He said Cooper can beat press coverage and they look for that in a receiver.......lol then why did they sign the guys they have now??
He said Cooper runes good routes and gets separation. .......good thing he learned this on another team, cause he wouldnt learn it here.
He said Cooper ran a 4.6 forty coming in........ well I dont know what our current guys speeds are, what a guy did as a rookie or at combine
is meaningless later on.
but it means he has good speed.

Now I will say this Amari could and should be the best wr on the team now, and he should help our anemic offense, and give dak
a better target.
no doubt about he will help the team be better, the problem is what they paid for him and the fact that they wait till after game 7
and are 3-4 to make this trade.

Had they done it in PS then I would be all for it and say good job, but they waited till team is in a hole with little chance of making
playoffs to make this move.
They now need to win 7 of the last 9 games to make playoffs, and might get in winning 6 , but amari isnt going to be that
much of a boost to do all that.
It is possible but unlikely that they win 7 of 9
so that means this move was a waste for this season , but if it turns out to be long term and he plays good then maybe it
is worth it.
Jerry thinks it will save this season, and wants more points scored even if they lose games.

The cowboys can lose to atlanta, and NO, and then all the other teams are beatable , and it means they have to sweep the eagles
or beat 1 of the 2 mentioned. So they now have to win some games in a row .
if they win the next 4 they would be 7-4 and in good position.
IMO I dont think they can beat NO, or Atlanta, but maybe they surprise me.
But they need more than amari, they need to cut dak loose , run rpo's throw deep , go for it on 4th downs , fake punts, fg's
go for 2 points, and better game plans, run elliot more etc etc. be creative and not so predictable!

But I aint holding my breath on all that lol. probably same ol same ol.

Interesting that WM said AC beats press coverage. The reason scouts have given for Cooper’s drop in production over the past couple of seasons has been that teams are throwing more press coverage his way and he hasn’t been able to beat it very often.
