Thanks. Let us be the team that says no to stupid QB contracts. Either you have a superstar like Wilson, Rogers, Kirk,Luck, Matt Ryan, Stafford, each one of their contracts get bigger and bigger in total money and cap %.
This is why teams like Eagles, Rams, Bears and going all out to win now. Eagles will most definitely pay Wentz 28-30 per year, you can bank in that. I think Trubisky is no good and Bears will be making a mistake to pay him. Don’t be stupid... get direct TV...
I could see the Rams gambling and not pay Goff. They probably don’t have the money to pay him 25 million plus. With McVay you can get a similar player pay him 10 million and keep the train moving. Be smart fellas.

Dak has a higher ceiling BUT with this coaching staff , he won’t get near his potential. Get us a McVay type coach and Dak can be a QUALITY QB not elite. Smith is trash but Reid made him look great last year. A New system is key
How does Dak have a higher ceiling? Smith was the 1st player picked, Dak was picked in the 4th round. This higher ceiling certainly was not acknowledged at draft time.

You can even say that and I'd somewhat agree. I've said many times if this guy needs everything around him to be top level to be avg he isn't that good period. He is going to be worse when you have to pay him top level QB money and not get the needed pieces because of it. That alone is why I wouldn't sign him to a big deal not even speaking on his other limitations.

All the best teams and all the best QB's in order to win it all need great stuff around them. Dak is no different. The question becomes.........when you finally have enough good stuff around him, can he produce? We already saw that in his rookie year so he checks the box. And that was with bad coaching and average receivers.

dak is a much better leader and hes more effective with his legs. Has Smith ever gone 13-3 or won 11 in a row? Dak did it his rookie year. So as he matures the ceiling should be higher.

Imagine Dak in a great system with great coaching. Has never had that.

Smith did go 13-3 in 2011 and probably goes to the SB if his punt returner didn't muff 2 late punts in the NFC Championship game.

Lol, if Alex was trash as the #1 pick then Dak must be complete S^($ as a 4th round pick. Alex will most likely always be better btw...

Alex Smith signed a 4 year, $94,000,000 contract with the Washington Commanders, including a $27,000,000 signing bonus, $71,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $23,500,000.

That is the cost of a game manager. Dak at his absolute best is pretty much Alex Smith. Andy Reid had Alex Smith and decided to aggressively trade up for Mahomes. Unfortunately I don't think the Cowboys are intelligent and courageous enough to do something similar. If they were intelligent enough to be proactive then they would have traded up 2 spots for Wentz. The Cowboys re-signing Dak and screwing this franchise for the next 5 years is inevitable. Dak will be an effective game manger again with Cooper.

Wentz has flashed. He may end up being a flash in the pan. Time will tell. The view on this sort of thing tend to fluctuate.

Pfft!!

Alex Smith was around that age when the 49ers got rid of him.

People need to stop acting like mediocre players are an asset.

Just look at the Chiefs , with the bus driver, they were going to lose to the first good QB they faced in the playoffs.

Now, with Mahomes , it's on.

I don't watch a lot of Chiefs football. I usually only see stats and highlights. Alex Smith has been posting good stats for some years now so I kinda wondered what the deal was...

I have a friend at work who is s Chiefs fan. Never misses a game. He was glad they got rid of Alex Smith. said that as long as Alex Smith was the QB, the Chiefs needed to play a perfect game to have a chance against good teams. No penalties... not falling behind more than 7 points...defense playing lights out...and God forbid if an Injury happened.. And even then, they could still lose.

Where have I heard a this before?

Perfect conditions rarely happen in the NFL.

He said Mahomes gives them hope.

Bus drivers are for mediocre teams that are just happy to stay relevant.

The Chiefs wanted to be contenders , so they got rid of their weak link.

The Vikings , to a degree , did the same.

The Jaguars decided to keep their "good enough to win with" QB and are paying for it.

The Bortles contract is probably in the range that Dak should sign. Anything significantly more than that (as of this moment) would be over paying Dak.

Alex is 34!!! And your comparing draft status not actual play. Alex Smith was considered a huge bust his first couple yeArs. Dak was almost considered rookie of the year.. NEXT!!!

He had a great year last year. Probably his best year. NO coincidence that the players around him were great.

I used to compare Prescott to Alex Smith until I realized what an insult that was to Smith.
At this point Dak hasn’t shown anything to compare to smith’s career
But smith didn’t really become a decent QB till he had been in the league 5 yrs
The question is what can a 3rd yr QB become not what he is
Dak wasn’t an elite prospect coming out and still has much to learn to be a decent QB
I was really excited about his potential after first year
I’m a bit bummed about his improvements year over year
We did him no favors with the talent around him and not working more in camp
But Dak has a lot to prove to even be considered for a starting QB position let alone a big contract

Why is posters even discussing the amount that Dak should be paid? Dak is a jag, nothing more. It is beyond pathetic at how little it takes to satisfy these fans. This is the Dallas Cowboys. At one time, that stood for excellence. The low expectations are the main reason why they have a future that is not as bright as the Browns. I remember a time with losing was not an option. For years Dallas was lead by Landry and the only goal each year was a Super Bowl appearance. You have fans on this board that are hoping to squeeze into the playoffs with a 9-7 record and they are depending on other teams to get them to the playoffs . Have some pride. Dak does not make the cut. Do what it takes to draft the top QB in the 2030 draft and return to the glory days. Jerry and Garrett are part of the problem when they make excuses for poor play. The hell with excuses. Have some self respect for yourselves and demand more from this steaming pile of crap that the Cowboys send on the field every week. Sorry for the rant, but enough is enough of overvaluing these jag players and jag coaches.

Over 4000 yards
26 td
5 int
That’s better than anything Dak has done
But the point was Dak is a 3rd year QB and should get better like Smith did
But he hasn’t got better this year
The question is how much of that is crappy talent to throw too?

That I agree
But now with cooper he’s got to get better
I didn’t like the trade because of the price but he is a true one receiver
