Rookie receiver Michael Gallup, who found out that his brother had committed suicide shortly after the Dallas Cowboys beat the Atlanta Falcons Sunday afternoon, is away from the team and grieving with his family.
But his teammates and coaches made it clear a day after the tragedy, that they’re his family too and will offer whatever help he needs.

“He’s our brother and we’re there for him and praying for him every single day,” said fellow rookie Leighton Vander Esch. “I love the kid. We have a chip on our shoulder for him and we’re going to do everything we possibly can to be there for him. Anything he needs. We have to be there for our brothers when things happen like that. Family comes first.”

Cowboys’ owner and general manager Jerry Jones released a statement Monday afternoon.

From the article ..

“All of a sudden my drop didn’t matter anymore,” Cole Beasley said. “It puts things in perspective for you. Any time someone is going through some things, we all have each other’s back. Anything he needs any of us will be there at the drop of a dime. He needs to take as much time as he needs and we’ll be here for him.”

Seriously? Cole Beasley uses this unrelated tragic event to minimize a mistake he made? I could understand saying something like, "The win didn't matter as much any more" or "My touchdown catches didn't matter any more" but only a narcissist would use a tragedy like this to try to wash over a mistake he made.

Sounds like something Jerry would say to excuse his puppet boy.

I'm sure his drop bugged him so he's using an example of something that felt big but is small in the grand scheme of things, but for the fans, it might have been best for him not to use that example.

He means he personally stopped agonizing over it, I assume.

Well suuuure, ya gota put things in perspective ya know....I heard there was some sort of tragic issue for one of the players yesterday, but no one knew just whom or what...I feel for him I truly do. I lost my big brother last July to cancer at 60. It still haunts me with memories of our childhood and times together. Be tough to see him make it back this season, although I expect we will.

I take that as him saying he was bothered by his drop, but in the big picture its nothing compared to what Gallup is dealing with.

I'm not questioning the "putting it in perspective" mindset .. I'm simply saying that in this case, most people only downplay the insignificance of accomplishments in that situation, not failures unless the failures were directly related to the tragedy. Of course something like that is way more important than any aspect of football, but seriously, who brings up a specific yet unrelated play like that?

Exactly. Nothing compares to it so why even mention it?

Keep in mind, I have no issues with Beasley as a person or player. I would have said the same thing had it been anyone else.

I see it differently in what he is saying. Football at a moment like this means absolutely nothing it is irrelevant and unimportant. A life was loss who cares about a dropped pass and losing the game. Maybe he shouldn't have mentioned his drop ball but I think he didn't mean it that way.

ROFL...I wasn't questioning your point, I was making fun also of how he tossed THAT out there with a guy killing himself... how the heck does the one even get mixed in with the other?

He could've phrased it better, but I get his meaning. I don't think he meant to downplay his drop. He was trying say the game isn't that important in the grand scheme of things.

Exactly ..it's like saying, "After a tragic event like this, it doesn't even matter I rear-ended someone on the way to work today."
