The Yankees made a needed move by acquiring LH James Paxton from the Mariners. Gave up a decent prospect but the Yankees need starting pitching like now in order to compete with Boston.

I'm glad the Astros did not consummate that trade with Seattle because it would have cost them Forrest Whitely, who many consider to be the top pitching prospect in baseball... It would have been like the Expos sending Randy Johnson to the Mariners.

Whitely is going to be a very good starting pitcher in MLB who the Astros will control for several seasons.
I am not sure I like this trade for the Yanks as they gave up their No. 1 prospect (ranked 12 out of all the prospects) and another prospect that was 22 out all the prospects in MLB. Plus the Seattle pitcher is up for arbitration at the end of next year. I know the Yanks had to do something ( don’t know if I could live with another Red Sox’s WS) but I am on the fence about this. The jury is still out.

IMO, it's a kneejerk reaction. Look, Boston was just hot last post season. It's not that they were 4,000 times better than their opponents. They had guys you never heard of, lifetime .260 hitters, lighting it up. No reason to start giving up young hot pitching prospects.

Since I'm not a Yanks fan, tho, great trade!!!

And then add in that he can't stay healthy.
I agree with you that is why I am hesitant about this trade.

Why was there such an apparent bidding war going on for him? He's 30 and still living on potential. 3.42 lifetime ERA, and a 3.7 or something like that last season. What's the deal? Looks like an OK #3 type starter who can't stay healthy to me. I really don't get it.

Have no idea why there was in the first place.

Well number 1, he's a lefty and that's worth something.

He has started 52 games the last 2 seasons so it's not like he's always hurt.

Last year he only gave up 134 hits in 160 innings. That's good. And he struck out almost 12 guys per 9 innings, so he has some talent.

His stuff is better than Kuechel's at this point. Kuechel is a #3 starter... Paxton is a notch above that.

Paxton is a solid rotation guy, he should add a few more wins to the total next season. He is not the guy to depend on in a playoff game but could keep the Yanks in a game during a long series.

I don't think he is a #1 or #2 type pitcher but not a jag either.

Mets in typical fashion, going after a drug induced geriatric in Robinson Cano. About ten years too late fellas :lmao:

Oh, he's got good stuff, no argument there. It's his health.

Define "always hurt".

Paxon is that guy who should be better than he is. He's around 30, so it's not like there's a ton of upside left. I like the guy as a player, I just think giving up a topnotch pitching prospect for him is dummm

Oh I agree on what type of prospect I'd give up for the guy... Certainly would not give up Whitely. Probably wouldn't have given up Josh James either.

Plus it looks like they are going to sell the ranch for their closer. Cano was the new gms former client. Looks like Cano is paying brodie under the table to get him out of Seattle. Jeffy wilpon is probably getting a cut.

here was the negotiation between Mets and Mariners

Mariners offer Cano with his crazy contract to the Mets whose GM negotiated that silly contract.
Mets say we will take CAno if you give us Diaz and take Bruce and Swarzak.
Mariners say ok but we want one of your top prospects.
Mets ask the Mariners how many of our prospects will it take to get 50 million dollars from you. Mariners say all of them. Done deal. The players are not the driving force of this deal. The 50+ million dollars is. New GM but same ol story....

just heard mariners are including 60 million in the trade. Bowie Kuhn is rolling over in his grave. It most likely means the Mets are including DeGrom in the deal now .

It's a head scratcher of a trade for both sides.

I don't think either side won or lost in this trade... Just kinda traded names.

Not sure the effect will be positive for either.

DeGrom is not part of it. Cano is owed 120 million over the next five years, they are simply paying half of it just to move him, they are in rebuilding mode.

The Mets think they can compete next year and DeGrom is the main cog in that plan......Thor may be traded though for the right players.

I will be livid if our two aces are traded and it just might be the final nail in the coffin for me to support them.

At this point the Mets are going to have to reach for some of that magic in order to have a team that challenges the Braves for the division.

And then you have the Phils who's owner says they are going to spend "stupid money" on free agents and the Nationals who'll spend money if they do not retain Harper.

At this point for the Mets to even get to 3rd in the division, they're going to have to make some serious noise between now & the start of the season.

I never said the Mets are in good shape to compete next season......our idiotic owners and GM think so :lmao:
