Is Dak unpopular because it is now a passing league?

For me, like most others here, it's mainly because Dak just isn't that good. It's frustrating because I honestly feel like the rest of the team is strong enough to do compete with the best if it had a top QB. I understand that some fans like him because we've sad some (very moderate) success with him as the starting QB but a few seasons worth of play is not a big enough sample size to rate a QB by that metric. Don't forget that Drew Brees recently went 7-9 three seasons in a row and Mark Sanchez started out his career 23-14 (including playoffs) and took the Jets to 2 AFC Championship games. Now I'm not saying that Dak is as bad as Sanchez because his first season was much better than anything Sanchez ever did but it is very concerning that his numbers (by almost any efficiency metric) over the last couple of seasons would see him ranked somewhere among the bottom ten starting QBs. What makes it worse is that he could potentially be about to get a big contract that would eat up a lot of cap space and make the team around him a lot worse.

Another smaller reason for me is that I just generally find the offense incredibly boring to watch ever since he's been here. Even in his first year when he played well and we moved the ball effectively there were a lot less spectacular plays than when Romo was QB. I know everyone is happy to do with a few less spectacular plays if it means we're winning consistently, but when you're a middle of the pack team doing nothing amazing it sure makes the games more exciting when your offense can pull off those plays.

A fair and honest post. Well done.

Also welcome to the zone!

? Without the long runs by Cooper Dak was 21/29 for 189. His issues are poor pocket presence, inability to anticipate routes and accuracy. Dak takes more sacks than a vending machine takes quarters.
1/3 of Goffs numbers have come from YAC yards from 3players(Cooks, Kupp, Gurley). Imagine with the other players.

If you want to drive home the point you have to use Romo as an example. That hits home.

In 2014, it is thought Romo was great in the post season. Now that we can subtract YAC plays from stats, Romo had 2 short passes to TWill that went for long TDs and 1 short pass to Dez with a ton of YAC. Those plays accounted for about 32.5% of Romo’s yards in those 2 games.

Not so impressive anymore, I guess.

Not all YAC is equal.

There's a difference between hitting a guy in stride on a post and him running for additional yards than hitting a guy for a few yards (or even 27) and that guy breaking tackles, or defenders falling and running for additional yards.
There's a difference when one guy is consistently getting chunk yards and big plays, and when it happens for the other guy it's an extreme anomaly.
There's a difference when one guy doesn't rely on the WR making guys miss after the catch to get big chunks of yards, and the other gets a huge % of his yards off screens, prevent D, or a guy making a play and getting 100+ yards after a catch.

For one, you expect to keep getting them. For the other, it's an outlier and unlikely to keep occurring.

I don't understand this division in the forums, of whether you are a "hater" or a "fan" of Dak. None of that should be a consideration. What is important is wanting a QB that can get the job done. Personally, I don't think Dak is that guy. Inaccurate throws, terrible pocket awareness, unable to read defenses. Nothing against the guy, I just don't think he's a good quarterback. The fact that people debate this so much blows my mind. We all know what his scouting reports said, and we can all clearly see it in real time.

So for any other QB they're play is impressive no matter then amount of yac but when its about Dak the Wr is doing all the work? I get it now. Some of you hate this kid so much its embarrassing.

I don’t hate Dak. I am actually supporting your argument. Just giving an example which includes Romo. That typically gets Dak haters to view their complaint about Dak in a different light. Well, they will still hate Dak but they will come up with reasons why the complaint isn’t valid for Romo but still is with Dak and yet another double standard will be exposed.

It’s the bad passes to Gallup for an easy TD,or sacks from not getting the ball out that drive people nuts. He’s never going to be one of the hot NFL gunslingers, but if he could get a little quicker and have his throws to be on target more,he’d be a heck of a lot better QB people would feel more comfortable with.
