How much?

A Joe Thomas type contract?

Snap counts (on defense) for the season:
Wilson 27%
Jaylon 95%
Vander Esch 75%
Lee 25.5%
Ideally you draft a guy there who can also backup the other LB spots
We’ve got some expensive decisions to make and a million here, a million there saves money for those other big decisions

He's not a guy that you build your offseason planning around, but, for a reasonable price, yes he should be brought back. Wilson can play SLB and MLB, and has played more special teams snaps than anyone on the team. There's value there.

Wilson has played his best football this season albeit he’s not a world beater.

Simple question....do we resign him (FA in 2019) or let him walk and see if we can add a third killer to the lineup?
depends on money, like Hitchens it will come down to cost etc if hes friendly and less expensive keep him..if not bye.. we have Lee to renegotiate as well if that doesnt happen Wilson will be needed more as well as Joe Thomas as a less expensive option.

Covington, Thomas, JML, a draft pick, and a few rookie free agents should be all the backup LBers needed for camp. If Lee is cut or retires, then that draft pick may need to be a few rounds higher and one in free agency would be a likely hood.

I'm bringing him back unless he figures into the comp pick equation.

If I can have Wilson for around 3 mil, yes. 8 mil, no.

W/ a decent but not great player like Wilson, it simply comes down to what someone wants to pay him. Balls not in our court.

Id give him a role player level deal. He is a good SAM, and I would give him a deal tiered a little higher than what we gave Wilber after his rookie deal.

Comparing Wilson to Hitchens is laughable unless you’re simply saying another team will pay him more than what we’d be willing to.

Hitch was a good player.

Keep him if the price is right, let him go otherwise. Having a decent sam is good along with a core ST player.

Simple answer.....if the price is right why would we not sign him? He’s a good LB’er.

Without seeing what he is asking for and what the team would be willing to offer really can't make a clear cut call on this.

You can draft a guy in the middle rounds to do what he does.

There are so many big contracts coming up that Jerry will not be able to sign everybody. Wilson is one of those guys.

Okay so there's been a million "if he's cheap, right price, not too expensive blah blah blah" replies.

Up to what cost AAV would you sign him for? Put figures out there, cheap is open to anyones interpretation.

see ya. Can't keep everyone. Look at Terrance Williams. Someone who we should of just let walked.

He's not worth a lot in terms of cap. But we also have to find a guy who isn't a complete liability for those 27 percent of the snaps. This defense is pretty sound, and I would think that he is at least part of that.

Having said that, get him signed to a team friendly deal he f we can, and if not churn and find someone else. He's not irreplaceable.

Any idea what they had in mind with Covington when he was drafted?

I think they drafted Covington to play the same spot as Wilson (SLB) but Covington has more upside in coverage.

Covington started college as a QB. He only played LB for about 1 season, IIRC.

I also recall that he tweaked his hamstring running the forty which makes his forty time invalid.
