Do some Cowboys fans really think one-and-done is the same as missing the playoffs?

Seems like a prime example of Sour Grapes, but very often on this message board and elsewhere you will see some Cowboys fans saying, "Oh well, even if we make the playoffs, we'll just be one-and-done, so it makes no difference."

Sure, maybe they are hoping that the Cowboys fail to make the playoffs, so that Garrett and Linehan are fired. That is a rational motive, and I hope to see the Clap and Linehan both gone - but that isn't what these fans are saying; they're saying anything less than a Super Bowl championship, is all equal in terms of failure.

Don't know how many fans think this way, but IMHO there is a very clear difference between failure to make the playoffs, and making the playoffs but losing the first playoff game. The latter is still more of a success than the former. Otherwise, are people arguing there literally is no difference, success-wise, between 2015 and 2016?

It's been a long time since we have won a superbowl. Not having a contender to win the Superbowl In 25 years is not helping. If we're East Division champs but we're 9-7 or 8-8 and we win by default then we only have coulda woulda shouldas. We'll need some Scoring tes before well win beans with this pop warner scheme .

If you're not first you're last

Never heard of it before the cowboys had this recent funk about the playoffs...

It’s catchy so the haters love saying it

We’ve had several teams capable of contending over that period. Not every contender makes it to the big game.

As bad as this team is imo making the playoffs imo is just a week 18 game

This team isnt playoff ready and imo easily the worst team in the playoffs if we go which im still not convinced we do

I think they have a lot in place but I agree with you.

I can think back to 1976 and remember when I played pee-wee football. The team I was on stunk and won maybe 1 game. At the end of season banquet we all received participation trophies and I thought it was dumb since the team sucked and hadn't won anything. Being satisfied with 8-8. 9-7, or one and done brings about basically the same feeling. Why be satisfied and accept your trophy when you didn't win anything?

Guess that makes me a hater because I'm not happy with 4th, 5th, or 6th place and want the big prize instead.

When you lack ambition guess where you will finish?

While I don't think we're on the same level as a few of the playoff teams, I think this team is capable talent wise, (key word: capable) of beating most the teams in the playoffs. Our defense is championship level and that alone gives us a decent chance.

It is not the same at all. It is much worse to be a one and done again when it extends our mediocrity for another 5 years. Wasting more players careers.

I think the sentiment is born from fatigue... watching a team choke at clutch moments and fail to deliver postseason success.

I believe the line of thinking is “why get your hopes us only to face inevitable disappointment?”

IMO— winning the division only positions you to have a chance to win in the playoffs. The postseason is a brand new season. Everyone is 0-0 again and has a chance to win the trophy.

So yes, failing to even get into the playoffs is a worse season than one and done. But the pain and frustration of one and done is more painful to experience than the failure of 8-8.

Not for me, the goal is to make the playoffs and advanced once you're there. How can it be considered the same if you don't even qualify for the playoffs. It's the second season and teams that qualify get that second chance.
Go Cowboys :flagwave:

Is it the exact same? Of course not...but I don’t think anyone should be satisfied or happy with just making the playoffs either. Losing in the WC Round is still a failure of a season in my book.
