How do you stop somebody who wants to advance his career?

Seriously.

This ain't 1865 and we do not chain people to the bennch.

If he goes..

so be it.

I wish him well.

It's what all of us want.

Money and control of our destiny thru success.

Payton was an offensive coach.

His background prepared him for his success.

Drew Brees helped a bit.

My bigger concern would be if he took any of our other coaches with him.

I am sure he raids Seattle a bunch when he leaves, too.
No... You've got it all wrong. Richard is the single most important reason why our defense has made such a huge leap this year. Make him DC and give Marinelli some assistant head consultant can job... ASAP

Do not allow him to leave. Period.

Tell red he's been reassigned to an administrator role away from the front lines and promote Richards.

the last 4 weeks our defense has not been very good. How is that possible with this amazing coach calling our defensive plays?????

No reason to worry yet. From what he does now and what he was hired to do to a HC is a huge jump. JJ could make him DC and assistant HC and maybe that will be what he would be happy with. JJ has to throw money his way for sure. JJ should have signed him to a multi year contract to start...

It wouldn't matter if JJ signed him to a billion dollar deal. If Richard gets a HC gig, he's going to be out of Texas like a shot. There are not a lot of great coaches in the NFL these days and Richard is going to be highly sought after
for sure.

That’s a deflection though. Can you see Richard’s personality working with Jerry? Honestly? I can’t.

What personality works with Jerry's besides a Muppet? I know what you are saying but I think the real question is does Richard work well with Stephen? From what I can tell so far, it does. That doesn't mean anything though. We'll see.

Actually I agree with you here. As much as I've like Richard this season, the Defense has shown some obvious cracks since the Saints game. My only hope is they are just waiting to get after it again in the playoffs and they seem to like their coach. The last few games, they've just seemed UNINTERESTED. Like they knew they'd get to the playoffs then play again. Maybe stupid analysis but it almost feels like that to me.

Good luck with that.

I like him to but not about to give him the keys to Emerald City for one years job with all the other coaches who deserve credit, too.

That's a dis-service to our staff.

Marinelli has put this defense together.

Richards has done fine with a ready made team.

I share your want to.

I just do not see how it will happen.

There is some truth here.

If we crash and burn in the playoffs..

Watch out.

Seattle knows Richards well.

That may not be a good thing for us.

They did fire him for a reason.

Just because a person is a good db coach or a good Def Co in training in no way means they will be a good head coach. The league is littered with fantastic coordinators who absolutely sucked as head coaches only to end up FIRED. There is a whole lot more to being a head coach then just being a successful coordinator.

Hiring his staff is critical.

He will be looking at some of our staff to take with him.

Dude...He's not going anywhere..LOL The Jets arent going to offer him the head coaching job. None of the teams with a vacancy are. Not time yet. Now,...next year? MAYBE.

A guy like Eberflus will get an offer this year way before Richard will.

Right?

B/w DAK needing to win in the playoffs..

and Richards needing a successful defense to grease his skids into a new job..

this should be interesting .

Talk about a couple of saimese twins in need of each other.

Then add Garrett needing to win..

let's hope this is not a train wreck coming.

I am not sure what you mean?

You mean cigar smoking buddies in the bus?

Clarify how you mean so we can comment better.

Thanx.

The statement was worded as if they cannot coexist unless I read it wrong. My question was why can’t they? What has Richard’s shown in his personality that makes someone think that he could not work with Jerry?

I think there may be a little too much hype around the guy personally. Yeah I like his fire but it's not like this defensive secondary all of a sudden started getting a ton of picks (we had 9 total, 26th in the league). I honestly think that moving Jones to CB had a bigger impact on the defense than Richard. Still running Marinelli's defense.

...I wouldn't worry about it. A HC gig, is not what it use to be. Where you build up a contending team, which takes knowledge, forethought, time..etc. Franchises want playoffs and super bowls right away.
