A lot of teams spend the first half of the year breaking in new schemes, new players and then re-calibrating. Some teams get decimated by injuries. The Eagles and Ravens didn't get rolling until after changes at quarterback.
I would argue that a team's record in the second half of the season is perhaps a better way to measure that team as they enter the playoffs.
Now obviously strength of schedule can cloud things. But anyway. Here it is:
NFC
Bears, 7-1
Cowboys, 7-1
Saints, 6-2*
Seahawks, 6-2
Eagles, 5-3
Rams, 5-3
AFC
Colts, 7-1
Ravens, 6-2
Texans, 6-2
Chargers, 6-2
Chiefs, 5-3
Patriots, 5-3
*Saints benched most starters in final game loss
