The blueprint to slow the Rams was provided by Detroit?

I remember reading a couple different articles about this. Even though the Lions didn't win they gave the Rams all they could handle and the Bears and Eagles took ideas from that game plan. Do not sell out to stop the run, do not bite on any PA, that's how they generate their big plays.

"As the Rams have struggled in the last few weeks, the residual effects of the Lions game plan keep showing up and frustrating the Rams. They surfaced in Chicago's big win with Vic Fangio, and Jim Schwartz copied some of the plan to help the Eagles win on the road. Analyst Dan Orlovsky took notice.

Seems like the Lions D blueprint playing the Rams 3 weeks ago people paid attention to. Don’t chase the run-don’t sell out to stop the run. You aren’t going to and it opens up the PA gashes. Lions didn’t. Bears didn’t. Doesn’t seem Eagles are either.

...... the Lions frustrated Jared Goff and didn't allow him to get going with deep passes or impact plays. They allowed the Rams to run the ball and sat back in coverage, not giving Goff any open lanes."

Yep, nice find. I assumed we would just target what the Bears did....generally they just use four man pass rush and play coverage. We will mix in a few blitzes I am sure.

I've been looking for a couple other articles I read a few weeks ago about what the Bears and Eagles also did, but can't find them. It was basically, bringing and disguising pressure and stunts, varying the coverages because Goff was having difficulty reading coverages, especially when teams started ignoring PA. Showing different shell coverages that were fooling Goff. I can't remember exactly what was mentioned, but it was along those lines.

The thing we have going for us that other teams don't is our version of "sitting back and allowing the run" still includes LVE, J. Smith, and the Hot Boyz in a nickel package that's been effective against the run.

We have a good defense and I love it.

They scored 30 on the Lions.

Exactly. This is hilarious.

Not “selling out” to stop the run meant that Gurley ran for 132 yards and two touchdowns and the Rams won by two touchdowns.

Yeah, some blueprint. I’ll stick with the blueprint from the Saints’ game, thank you very much!

I've always said I don't get why LB do that anyway. I understand if it's like 3rd/4th inches getting fooled but otherwise just wait till the rb gets to you if your dline doesn't stop him then make the play. Seems pretty common but people's instincts get used against them all the time

We suck against PA so I'm hoping big time they can fix some of that...

The score was 16-13 until the last 6 minutes of the game. The Lions had the right game plan, just not the talent to completely pull it off, coupled with a bad turnover. The game was a lot closer than the score indicated.

Yeah, people just look at the final score and assume it wasn't a close game. The Rams scored with about 6 minutes left to get to 24. Lions then went down the field but had to settle on a FG after a near TD catch by Golladay. Detroit kicked an onside kick and the Rams were able to put it away. But their offense wasn't exactly explosive all day. Even Gurley's day was deceptive. He only had about 60 yds and no TDs until they scored with 6 minutes left. He had about a 15 yd TD run then, and then had a 40 yd scamper when Detroit was selling out at the end of the game. The Lions did a very good job of staying in the game with a team much better than them.

You know people just see end results and make their own conclusions a lot of times regarding the stats

Here's a little more, but still can't find the article I was looking for.

"No Rams pass went for more than 20 yards until the fourth quarter. Goff consistently checked down, missed when he went downfield and continued his recent trend of turning the ball over.

Some of that is scheme. Teams have been playing Rams receivers soft and forcing the ball underneath. Part of that is an inability thus far by McVay and Goff to adjust.

Goff, in particular, has looked completely out of sorts when things start to break down. He's been much closer to the version of himself that looked like a borderline bust under Jeff Fisher than anything resembling an MVP candidate."
