Are we overrating Richard?

no, Richard came into a very big mess and is still constrained in a lot of ways. First lets talk about what he did that was brilliant. Him and Lal both came to the cowboys and stared doing what? Thats right, changing the culture. He got us from playing badly and out of technique to playing better and iwth a better foundation. Do i expect a turn around in one season? no, but for the most part he got out a lot of the swamp. He only worked the dbs with what he had so i give him credit for thhat too. he moved a cb out of safety and back to cb. Our first round pick went to bloom, and was good. and Richard hopefully will get some new toys next season. With what he had to work with and turn around and lay down a new culture. no we are not over rating but we are always selling it high.

As I said a few weeks ago, how come he can’t get Awuzie to track the ball?

Defense carried the team most of the year. I honestly got tired of always depending on them. In the big games the offense needed to carry their share of the burden and for most of the season they couldn't do it. Need more balance as a team. Special teams has to get better. You cant win being good on just one side of the ball.

Special teams could have really used Austin on the carpet this season. Coverage units were taken advantage of some, although. Punting wasn't quite as strong as well. Kicker...yea, you have a good point.

After Saturday Night's BS....I'll pack his bags for him to Miami. To belittle LVE in front of the nation to see...for not executing his dog crap game plan was absolute BS.

Then to stab LVE in the back w/ the Sean Lee substitution....Screw him. He's a prick that was looking for a scapregoat for his dog crap plan.

That plan literally looked like he drew it on a napkin. 4-2-5...all night long.....regardless.

To say Kris Richard lost a fan Saturday night...would be an understatement.

He can go back to Seattle for all I care. Oh wait...he can't. They fired him. Just like we should.

Isn't RM the D line coach that gave up 270 yards on the ground Saturday night?

Well if it’s the exact opposite. Please share a counter point.

PPG, turnovers and sacks are literally the 3 most important statistics and 2017 and 2018 are not “the exact opposite.” I said “statistically speaking” and the numbers don’t lie.

Not sure how you can even type such a definite statement without facts.
Literally 2 posts above the one I showed you.

***2017 PPG: 20.35
2018 PPG: 21.4

2017 Interceptions: 10
2018 Interceptions: 9

2017 sacks: 38
2019 sacks: 39

****In the 2017 number I subtracted 28 points that were the result of a pick 6.

Something to discuss...are we letting a young, firey coach blind us to the fact that this defense statistically isn’t much different? That playoff performance was as bad as I have seen in the Marinelli era...maybe the worse. Richard calls the plays.

Remember...he was fired from a staff that many of us envy and the Seahawks defense is no worse for it.
Richard got his rep from the Legion of Boom.

When it broke up..

they obviously thought he was not needed.

So I think he is great and where he is..

is his best position.

If they want him to do DC..fine.

But HC?

He needs to do it a 2nd year with us first as a DC in 2019.

Then we will see what happens.

Hard to judge Richard as a DC since he's still running RM defense. However, you can't say he's overrated as a DB coach.

He's been excellent the way he got three first time starters to play this year.
You also so how much better Woods and Chido got as the season wore on. That's a sign of good coaching.

We literally went from the @5th beat defense in the league to the 9th best in one year with essentially the same personnel. This is fan malpractice.

A single game...c'mon. An above average offensive team was able to show the Cowboys just where their real deficiencies lay. Now, the work to eliminate those areas is being evaluated.

Not a single game, we are talking season averages here. Points allowed, sacks, ints, ect….

The season numbers for the defense in 2017 and 2018 are very similar, meaning statistically Richards did not have that much of an effect on these categories.

So the question has to be asked, how much of a contribution did he really provide and why did that contribution not show up more in the season averages? Its a legitimate question to ask.

Literally 2 posts above the one I showed you.

I didn’t see that when I replied.

Regardless it still does zero to cancel out the core stats I highlighted.

We weren’t significantly better or worse at scoring defense, turnovers or sacks. Considering the fact that Richard is the most popular coach this team has had since probably Jimmy Johnson in a lot of fans eyes and the fact that his defense was just embarrassed a few days ago leads me to believe that maybe this fan base, me included, has been overrating his impact.

This defense is also immensely more talented than the 2017 version.

Yeah, but he yells at guys on the sidelines. Some folks seem really impressed by that.

From reading thru the season I though he was the second coming of Lombardi. Fire garret hire him, fire RM promote him. Pay him big $$$$$ End of the season and this, what goes on here. He's a high quality coach.

How is the defense immensely more talented? You add LVE but you lost a healthy Sean Lee for most of the year.

You added a full year of Gregory. That's it.

You're literally making things up.

And core stats are immaterial. Stopping people from scoring is most important. And when you consider a different slate of opponents looking at counting stats is silly.

The fact of the matter is that this defense went from 25th to 9th. Claiming Richards is overrated with that backdrop is a freaking joke and fan malpractice.

Yes, Richard brought nothing to the table. Its insane how overrated he is right now.

The defense improved because of LVE and Jaylon. Plain and simple.
