Jerry's puppet media

If they question anything to harshly they are in fear of getting there media privelages and team access revoked. This has been my theory anyway.

When Steve Dennis, that was the only one will balls enough to ask a hard question. He was all of a sudden not in the PC's anymore. Matter of fact, I do not believe he is still around at all.

Per league rules, Jerry can’t deny accredited media basic access to the team.

Having said that, there’s a LOT of perks (preferred parking, free food, free beverages, club-level access, etc,) that come with being one of the Dallas media “good guys.”

Seriously, they have no balls. None of them put any pressure on this pos owner or hc of ours. NY media and Philly media, would tear them down.

Brodus called for Garrett's head for quite awhile, but he also gives credit when its due. Most of them dont go overboard like the fans want because they want access and bad mouthing the team could be detrimental, imo.

Because they’re just as apathetic as we are at this point. They understand and like us Jerry will always be their horse, even if he doesn’t win any races.

If i was a young whippersnapper trying to climb the corporate media totem pole in Dallas, skewering Jerry would be a bad move. Jerry owns Dallas and he has a lot friends. Thats also why the national media gives him a pass.

I'm actually shocked Jerry hasn't tried to shut this board down like he did the one on dallascowboys.com

Check out what Tim Mcmahon, the guy who had the guts to ask Jerry about "firing the GM" is doing now.

Broadus and the rest of the D.C.com Crew talks a big game on "talkin cowboys" etc by when it comes to the press conferences they shrivel up ...its extremely frustrating.

For many in the local sports media, local media is just a stepping stone for them. The ones that really don't care to leave a local area do not want to upset the major people and organizations they cover because it could kill their career. The ones who plan to leave for bigger goals in the future do not want to get set back or damage their reputation unless they are planning to go to specific markets or networks.

New York media is aggressive against their sports teams because its both the personality of the people in their market as well as everyone in the media there does it so no one stands out when they ask the direct or would-be insulting questions.

In Dallas however, because most of the media is filled with rah-rah writers and personalities, being overly critical of a sports team makes you stand out and get noticed in ways you don't want to be noticed by the players and organizations you cover.

I think as long as your don't make your criticisms too personal its ok. You can criticize the coaching and players..........but you better tread lightly on Jerry.

It’s about competition and trying to garner attention to your publication or station with big headlines or takes. The Dallas/ Fort Worth area doesn’t have the many different media outlines NY has. Think about it, the Dallas area really only has two newspapers (The Dallas Morning News and the Fort Worth Star Telegram) and two talk radio stations (The Ticket and The Fan). Compared a place like NY with the New York Post, New York Daily’s Times, New York Daily News etc... yea NY media outlets compete hard for for attention.

Back in the day when Dallas had 3 newspapers (Morning News, Star Telegram, and the Dallas Times Herald) competition amongst these three newspapers were pretty harsh. Ask SMU football

Guys whose job relies on access and getting interviews and quotes from people don't tend to run around trying to assert their opinions and narratives onto the situation, as if it's their job to bully the subjects of their coverage into behaving like they want them to behave. It's one thing to ask pointed questions that illuminate an issue. It's another thing to try to lead the charge in bringing someone down.

That's more for strictly talk radio hacks trying to boost ratings by working the fans up into a lather for whatever negative reason they manufacture. Shock jock types. Like the Philly guy who took a bus full of Eagles fans to the 99 draft to boo if the team dared to pick anyone other than Ricky Williams... who it turned out they were wise to not draft.

And journalism, even sports journalism, has only gotten harder as the newspaper industry has taken a beating. There are less and less jobs than their used to be, and the reporters feel that pressure to be chummy with the subjects they cover for fear of losing their job to someone who is willing to go in and be more friendly to get better access.

I seriously do not get why people say the local media or media, in general, don't "put the heat" on the HC or Jerry Jones. I constantly see it from the local media people nearly every day and i don't even live in the DFW area.
