With a debatable average qb (goes both ways for the lovers, he's average in my books), MOST CERTAINLY.

It amazes me that people can watch what the Pats did to KC’s powerful offense and not understand exactly how important great coaching is.

Ehhhh, I mean how do you know Garrett isn’t Belichick’s equal? I mean he’s won almost as many regular season games the last 3 years.

;)

I'd say we are about 273 rushing yards off.

Our team however isn't coached well enough to deal with the stadium conditions as the Rams did today. We would have floundered under those circumstances.

And if it wasn't that, it would be something else. Our coaching handicap really starts to show up in the playoffs....... t least in our few brief appearences.

To being a SB contender? Yeah, they aren’t that caliber yet. It’s not really that far off,but Dallas always makes it harder than it has to be. Like their reluctance to get dominating DTs this whole time, while the league keeps showing good examples for it. Or dumb things like trying to keep Dak bottled up in the pocket and not running, and after seeing what this guy can do this year with his legs? Now I’m thinking they wasted years, and possible wins on just being shortsighted in taking away one of his best strengths. Brilliant oversight that was. And it’s those type of decisions that hinder Dallas from the next level. I do see improvement now in that when they make dumb errors, they get more active in correcting it. Now,if we could just get rid of the dumb errors in the first place, then we’d be fine.

Which is how it always is. We always have great talent and never have teh schemes to show it. It's so frustrating.

Exactly.

The gameplan, focus, execution, and will to win that the Patriots showed last night is on an entirely different level than what exists in Dallas.

Anyone who thinks we have that kind of mental toughness, consistency, and leadership is simply in denial.

 Sometimes I can’t tell if its sarcasm. The always may be a tell.

This season we had the talent. Developing a game plan close to what the Patriots had on both sides of the ball would be welcome.

Looking at what type of franchise the Pats are make's me want to cry. We are light years from this team and organization.

One step forward.....two or three backwards. Coaching is a factor.

Do you honestly believe we are that far off?

Based on what I saw in the Rams's/Saints we aren't

Even with JG as our HC

Even with Dak as our QB

Even with JJ as our owner

Even with Kitna as the QB coach

AND the possibility of Mini Me Moore as our OC

We aren't that far behind McVay/Goff, Payton/Brees and the Rams/Saints.

Comments? Bring 'em

We are very far off, and this will become even more apparent next season. The Cowboys always seem to be a season behind everyone else. An organization that does not continually change and look for improvement will quickly die. That is what happens with the Cowboys. They have some success, become complacent, and a big giant turd follows the complacency. They then make a bunch of rushed changes, and they see some progress, and then more complacency. As someone always says here: wash, rinse, repeat.

Been this way for years, good year then they fall apart, time after time

Asong as Garrett is running the show and Dak is throwing the ball, we'll always be far off.

To this point, that's true. But I do believe that the Cowboys are headed in the right direction lately, unlike the years before the last 3 or 4 years. Commitment to a strong defense, as evidenced by draft picks like Lawrence and Vander Esch. Getting quality offensive players like Martin and Frederick. Not spending huge money for free agents. Not keeping players for long periods of time that they do screw up on, like Hardy.

Years before it was "let's grab the splashy free agent in Terrell Owens" and such.

That's what I have to hang my hat on, can't find another team to cheer for at my age, can't wallow in "we'll never ever be able to win another SB" attitudes...

Sadly as much as I dislike Prescott as the future quarterback(average at best) we have the tools to be competitive every year. However the Superbowl will always be out of reach as long as JJ and JG are in the picture.

My contention is that the Cowboys roster has as much or more talent than the Rams roster. Coaching is the difference.

Roster wise they absolutely have to get and keep the OLine at peak performance. The OLine is a much bigger issue for the Cowboys than for many other teams unless they completely change schemes.

Moore/Kitna is better than Linehan/Moore but still a huge question mark. Linehan is a smart guy but I don't think he communicates well or works well with players based on watching him in training camp and the up close view we saw the year the Cowboys coaches were the coaches for the Senior Bowl.

Garrett as HC is OK if they have the right OC and DC. Kris Richard is obviously a legit NFL DC.

This same question is asked every couple of years, then we backslide. Again. For 2 decades.

No, while Jerry and his offspring are in charge this is who we are.
Maybe Spalding will save the team 40-50 years from now when he gets his chance!
