JJ Watt with Chaz Green at LT

OR

Tyron Smith and DLaw or Gregory or M.Collins on DL

Free, your boy, would of stayed at LT longer . Lol

Green wasn't till 2015 . Odds are we would of gone for a LT in the 12/13 draft . Cause Free had a solid year at lt then started to decline .

I don't get why they put Wynn as the worst pick of 18 when he suffered an injury early on. Nit-picking but still .

On any team.

Tyron Smith has probably been better. He is younger and on a better contract for us. I am extremely anti- Jerry Jones but I have to give him and the FO credit. The team has done a great job in the draft. I only wish he would use the same approach in hiring a coaching staff.

Luck was on our side, don’t forget the raiders jumped us to draft Conner Cook
That draft was such a joke in the sense that every announcer and team knew Dallas was getting desperate for a QB.

This is slightly skewed, as players are greatly affected by the organization they go to. Sometimes it’s a terrible fit and someone who may be an All-Pro in Dallas is out of the league in 3 years because he wound up in Buffalo.

This is reinforced by the notion of 2011-2018. Find all the Super Bowl winners in that list. They rank 10th-32nd. Pats at 10, only team looking reasonably good, then Seahawks at the bottom (32), Giants at 24, Broncos and Eagles middle of the pack. What does this say? Well firstly, these teams are usually pretty good and rarely pick in the top 10, so they’re scrounging for scraps at the end of the round. What does this have to do with Dallas? Because Secondly, a bigger reason is they’re not necessarily drafting for need. I know firsthand that 2017 1st rounder Derek Barnett is developing splendidly, we just have 4 former all-pros in front of him so it’s okay if his AV isn’t skyrocketing just yet. Not a mistake pick on any level. Seahawks are notorious for late blooming draft picks, mostly because they don’t need them to carry the team early on.

Think about how many first rounders Dallas took in this era that NEEDED to be pro bowlers early for success to happen. Would you have gone 12-4 in 2016 if Dak wasn’t ready? Tyron Smith had to be what he is today very early just to get Romo to last until 2016. You took Zeke 4th overall to be your offense, and you sure ran him like it right out of the gate. You traded up for Claiborne because you needed that corner. The least needed player was Taco, uncoincidentally the lowest picked player on this list.

The point I’m making is maybe Paxton Lynch turns out different had he went to Dallas and was needed to start 16 games year 1. The pressure matures him much quicker, he becomes polished and is able to develop properly throughout his rookie deal. Maybe Dak goes to Denver and is a backup because he’s overlooked for 3 years before he’s cut... and that’s his career. There’s a tremendous affect circumstances have on people’s potential.

So I think a Dallas should get more credit for developing talent better than other teams than simply ‘guessing right.’ But yes, your haul is much better than analysts guessed you’d take. But that doesn’t necessarily mean the other guys they guessed wouldn’t have also turned out much better in Dallas.

Look at Mcshay’s mock-up Dline though. Watt-Brockers-Richardson-Ray. Good lord, youd win all the rings.

People forget how badly Jerry wanted Manziel in 2014 and Paxton Lynch in 2016.

He was talked out of drafting Manziel internally but not trading back up for Lynch was pure luck.

And many teams thought Lynch was a first round pick. Can’t hold that against them. They were always very high on Dak considering they spent more time with him than anyone. They just liked a few other guys better like every team.

You also never know how players would perform in different circumstances.

The problem with this fan boy exercise is they are taking mock drafts as their final determination instead of on the clock decisions. For instance, Kiper mocked Sutton to the Cowboys based on the many rumblings they liked him but when the Cowboys were on the clock he didn't say they should pick Sutton. He said they should pick Ridley or take Moore as a 2nd choice. He specifically said Sutton would be a reach.

And, of course, it only goes one round deep.

This article looks like a lot of work for very little payoff. It doesn't tell me anything that I didn't already know. That overall, the Cowboys first round draft picks have been excellent, with the only two notable misses being Claiborne and Taco.

And for the most part, things now look very good in the second and third rounds as well, given that Gregory and Jaylon Smith are both paying off.

The problem for me lies in the fact that all of this drafting well and player talent still doesn't translate into more wins under this coaching staff.
