Cowboys land millions in rollover cap savings from 2018 season
https://247sports.com/nfl/dallas-co...lover-cap-savings-from-2018-season-128711524/

*(very good read)

It's time to make it rain, Dallas Cowboys.

Based on what needs to be done this offseason, roster-wise, the rain better be torrential enough to create a flash flood, which is fine considering owner Jerry Jones has a new ark -- both physically and proverbially in reference to the NFL salary cap.

For the first time in quite awhile, the club will have a sizable financial cushion to work with going into the offseason, with the league setting a new bar for 2019. Granted, for those who actually understand how this all financial rigmarole works, there's no such thing as the mythical "salary cap hell" you've been led to believe the Cowboys have suffered from. Wise teams always find a way to make the cap work for them, be it with pay cuts, restructures, releases or the like. Building through the NFL Draft also helps in a major way, the goal being to land exceptional talent for pennies on the dollar -- something the Cowboys have now become arguably the best in the league at doing...

unfortunately most of the cap space will go tour own in house FA signings, lots of decsions on

Tank, Amari, Dak, Beasly and possibly Zeke.. I also believe we have like 19 players that are going to have expired contracts who do we keep or let go.. So most here will be disappointed when we fill those spots with 2nd tier FAs vs breaking the bank for big name first day FAs..they will groan and complain and prejudge every move..

so all the Cap money looks good on paper but will be used up with our big name extensions and low tier fill in for backups in FA..

That's only unfortunate if you don't like our guys. Also, we could easily create more cap space if needed for a large FA signing.
I do like our guys at the right price but like I backed that statement up the CZ guys wont be happy unless we break the bank first day with a tier one signing, as we know thats not Mclay and Jones style.. we do need safety and Te plus DT some draft maybe a improved on via FA..we will wait and see..

I see you've elected yourself as the authority on how a Cowboy Zoner should act, think and feel.
Good for you

Personally it bugs me we rolled over 12m

We should have spent that money on improving a Playoff team... don't tell me we had 0 needs

Maybe trade for a stud DT when Irving went AWOL

We have 75m in easy Cap Space this year and need to spend some money on FS, DT and TE

We have $48MM or so in space after adjustments, bonuses, etc.

Cut Lee and Hurns, we now have $60MM.

There is no real reason this team can't go out and actually sign a prime FA to fill a big hole - likely DT or S. But they won't.

Stephen and Jerry like what we have and will tell us signing Lawrence and Prescott and Elliott are just like adding FAs.

Actually, I'd say the majority don't want the Cowboys doing that.

What they want is for the Cowboys to hit the mid-level of FAs better.

What the Cowboys do is go on vacation the first two weeks of FA and then wait for the bargain bin, mostly made up of losers, to shake free.

Their FA approach is dreadful. They have few recent success stories in FA other than a guy like Woods. I also thought Thomas was looking good until he got hurt (and he's why I would cut Lee).

And we don't need to do Zeke until 2021
Extending ACooper lowers his cap hit from 14m
Tagging DLaw instead of signing him long term wastes Cap Space
Dak will cost but that is what Cap Space is there for
BJones is a 2020 decision and isn't worth 15m to me
Beasley, Austin, DWilson, Flemming, RSmith, LP are small time decisions

Sign EThomas to a 3/27m with incentives
Sign a DT and/or Draft one in the 2nd

That isn't asking for much

There are probably a couple of vet DTs you could get reasonable (I haven't looked at the FA list).

This team needs to stop being afraid of bringing in an older player for a year or two to fill a hole.

The Pats bought Gilmore, JGordon, CPatterson, Claiborne
The Rams got Talib, Peters, Suh, Fowler, Cooks, Woods
The Eagles got MBennett, CLong, AJeffrey, Ajayi, Foles
The Chiefs got SWatkins, Hitchens

It doesn't have to be huge but every team can use veteran help..... draft picks aren't the only answer

The only time I believe Jerry is when he says they don't have much interest in FA. You can bank on that, and you can bank on bargain bin signings.

well its known FACT do you not read the offseason hate and drama that surrounds the FGO being cheap mutherfers? LOL its already started, if im stating past and present reaction from here on subject its not speculation its all true..there are most likely 100s of pages post FA and draft on how bad we are going to be because of it..most are very wrong but the overreactions come in like flood gates opening..

but thanks for your unsolicited opinion as well ie Hypocrite

Both Zeke and Dak are on rookie contracts so I wouldn't offer up anything to them until after next season. I don't think Prescott is going to be worth a lot of money and I don't think he'll get it elsewhere either.

This, why spend now when you don't have too!

juts because we had money to spend doesn't mean we should just spend it for sake of saying it was spent
