If DLaw just has to have 100mil, I tag him for one more year and look for help in the draft. If Irving wasn't such a knucklehead, he
could replace DLaw easily. You can find two players for less than 100mil. His back to fail at any time, they don't get better...just ask Romo.

A lot of the hesitation WRT to D-Law comes back to his back, but has it been a problem over the last two years?

From overthecap.com:

September 1, 2018 Khalil Mack signed a 6 year extension with the Chicago Bears. Based on a report from Profootballtalk. The extension is worth $141 million with $60 million guaranteed at signing with $90 million in total guarantees. Mack received a $34 million signing bonus. Mack's 2018 & 2019 base salaries and roster bonuses are guaranteed at signing. Mack's 2020 base salary is guaranteed for injury at signing but vests to a full guaranteed on the 3rd day of the 2019 league year. $16 million of Mack's 2021 base salary is guaranteed for injury at signing and vests to a full guarantee on the 3rd day of the 2020 league year. Mack is due a $5.5 million roster bonus on the 3rd day of the league year in 2022, 2023, and 2024.

Yes, i'm totally aware of that. Because it's an extension it's $90,000,000. Lawrence has no contract right now. So there's no way he's getting $70,000,000 guaranteed.

It looks like his market value is $17 M per year, approximately. Whether he is worth that is another matter.

If we can get him for $17 M per year average with a guarantee for the player, its probably good for both the Cowboys and Tank.

Why would that be good for tank? If the Texans don’t design clowney they’ll have 60m$+ in cap space. What is Demarcus Lawrence’s reason for preferring to not sign for 20, 22, 23 a year with Houston with way more guaranteed money?

I really don't think that Tank is worth more than that. I don't think teams are going to line up and pay him QB money.

He drew $17 M this year on the FT, with no guarantees. A guaranteed contract is good for him. $23 per year is better for him, but hes not worth that, IMHO. I don't think he will see that, but if he does, it shouldn't be from the Cowboys. Trade him, or take the comp pick and move on for those numbers.

No superstar in free agency history has ever gotten only what they’re worth, the point of it is to overpay for your shortcomings. Too many teams have way too much cap space, and the reason pass rushers are making qb money is because they’re rare and people keep winning conference championship games because of them.

Lawrence is going to make a record breaking contract, either from Dallas or someone else. Indianapolis has 110m$ this offseason, no joke. They lost because they couldn’t get after Mahomes, and 23m a year is nothing to them. The jets have 90m and no pass rushers. Buffalo, SF, Houston, and CLE each have 75m$.

EVERYONE is going to get crazy money this offseason.

I'm not saying that you are wrong. I'm saying if Dallas pays him $23M per year it will likely be a contract that we rue at some point. That's just too great of a percentage of our cap to pay for a guy who gets 8 sacks.

I definitely agree with that.

To me, $50M should be the maximum. $40M is very fair.
