Tuesday marks the opening of the window for teams that are going to place franchise tags on players throughout the NFL. A report had surfaced that the Cowboys were winding up to drop their tag on star pass-rusher DeMarcus Lawrence.

There’s a lot of logic to tagging Lawrence, which is why it seemed like a formality more than anything for Dallas to place it on him for the second straight year. While that’s all true and makes sense it seems like that might not be the case, at least in the immediate future. According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the Cowboys will not be tagging Tank come Tuesday.

Per sources, the Cowboys will not place the tag on Lawrence on Tuesday.

They will try to negotiate a long-term extension possibly until the March 5 deadline for franchise tags.

Last year’s tag total was north of $17M for Lawrence and this year’s would top $20M. While his exact contractual status for the future is unknown there is no doubt that it will involve him making an enormous amount of money.

I have little doubt they want to work out a long term deal.

But my gut says they will eventually tag him. Honestly, that might be the way to go.

When you think about it, not a bad move at all. Sure DLaw and his agent know the tag is coming IF they can't work something out by March 5. Otherwise, he could be stuck with the 2019 tag salary.

This is called not pixxing off my player unless my hand is forced. Be surprised if there's no deal near the deadline.

EXACTLY, it also puts this fan at ease, knowing we really do intend to have Dlaw here for the long haul.

wonderful news.
one step closer.
we want 90 on that DLine.
we need 90 on that DLine.
we must keep 90 on that DLine.
Son, we live in a world that has walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lieutenant Weinberg? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago and you curse the Marines. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that Santiago's death, while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives! You don't want the truth, because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall. You need me on that wall. We use words like "honor", "code", "loyalty". We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it! I would rather you just said "thank you", and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand a post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to!

Son, we live in a world that has lines. And those lines have to be patrolled by men with big guns and swift feet. Who's gonna do it? You?

You weep for our pass rush, and you curse my contract. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that David Irving's demise, while tragic, probably saved dollars and cap space.

And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, sacks QB's ...You don't want the truth. Because deep down, in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that line! You need me on that line!

Damn, you beat me to it by a heartbeat. I changed it up a bit though.

They have to sign him in order to make Daks 300 million dollar contract work. Just saying...

Lawrence also has said that he wants between 20 and 23 million a year and will hold out including regular season games to get it
