huh... I thought this team played 1 gap and he always focused on get the QB 1st. It's why the Eagles gashed us to no end last year with Irving. And why we don't have a big, fat DT. He wants a go-getter at the 1 tech.
He stopped doing that?

yea, hes more of a "get as close as you can than run past the QB" kind of a coach. Trust me on this, the next dl coach will get getting sacks and you ll dig it

I think in the next couple years, you're going to see the toll of carrying the rock 300 twice in his early career and even being a heavy dose in 2017 in the games he did play is going to start impacting his body. Heck, he doesn't even have the same burst he had in 2016. He also has a lot of mileage from college as well. I think Zeke can be a productive back in the league for a while, I just don't think he's going to be this top 3 RB for much longer. Just too much mileage on his young legs.
You could very well be right. Darn shame... I think he's truly a great player who is multi-faceted and great at many of those facets in a league where you don't see that so much and truly affect of one side of the game more than any other player, or combination of players besides the line.

Zeke would have to be the odd man out here. This place loves them some Zeke, he's a jersey seller, but he's an RB in a passing league. You have to keep this defense together even if it means losing a couple skill position players.

I kinda agree with you on that one Matt. I mean, he is the easiest way to free up cap issues going forward. Sucks but yeah, I can kinda see that as well.

Damn... I used "truly" twice in one sentence unnecessarily. Time to change albums...

The Cowboys do not have a good history under this regime with DE's. They took the 3rd best one in that draft giving up a 2 and 3 and lucked out with a top 5 DE. If they traded him for a 1st, do you trust them to draft his replacement? And then where are we? A more affordable DE that we have 0 history with and still needing to address the DL.

Either you subscribe to it all starts with the lines to build the foundation or you don't. You don't trade away a top 5 to take a chance and how's that last DE 1st rounder working out?

When will we learn? When you find a keeper on the DL, you keep him and cut back somewhere else. Do you think Booger is going to give up his "war daddy" in hopes of another?

Agree with that, RB's are easier to find and if they fix the OL, do not need a top 3 RB that will get paid like that.

Why doesn't Jerry use my method to getting around the salary cap issue.
Pay league minimum and pay the difference by taking out my garbage once a week .

Here's another question. If Gregory was only able to get 6 sacks despite Lawrence drawing all the double team attention, how is he going to fare without Gregory?
I meant to ask how he will fare without Lawrence taking up the double teams. I need to proofread my work more closely.

We let Lawrence walk.

What do we do at DE? Some seemed to suggest it was OK because we had Irving in the wings. Well, so much for that. You can't head into the season with your DE depth chart being Charlton, Armstrong, Gregory and sometimes Crawford (who is a better interior player than outside player). That would be a bottom half of the league DE group, at best.

Consider this. WITH LAWRENCE, the Cowboys were middle of the pack in sacks and pressures. They were actually in the bottom third of teams in terms of Football Outsiders sack rate. Where do you think those numbers go with no Lawrence? Or do you just say, "hey, we weren't all that great at getting after the QB with Lawrence, so who cares if we still stink at it in 2019?"

What should Dallas do if Lawrence is not part of this team in 2019?

And note, I am not opposed to letting Lawrence walk............. as long as the franchise has a plan in place to compensate for his loss. They can't pull a WR offseason 2018 ploy where they will get "production by committee."
Honestly guys we have to sign DLaw. Sometimes you win sometimes you don’t. We gambled and let Murray walk and it worked out. We decided that we needed to see another year of DLaw before committing long term. We could have gotten him for Vernon money locked up for 5 years but we chose to pass. It’s the cost of owning a 5 billion dollar franchise. The cap is not a problem.
On another note, I would make Dak play out his deal. Let us get value one more year and earn the big bucks. ( I know my Dak thinking is diametrically opposed to Lawrence... I feel as though all qb’s have suddenly become over valued. If everyone earns over 25 million, I would like to take a contrarian approach. I don’t know just something to think about.)

That looked like “Lawrence Welk” when I read it and suddenly I was taken back to my pre-internet childhood suffering through awful parent-shows.

The Cowboys had over 19% of their cap invested in the DE position in 2018 - highest in the NFL - and their season ended with the defensive line getting steamrolled. The defensive ends were non-factors, and the Cowboys watched the CCG on TV yet again. So while you're wringing your hands over Lawrence, ask yourself how increasing that number is going to make them play any better?

Another case of not paying a guy like he's the best in the league just because he's the best on your roster. The only presence "Tank" had in the playoffs was when he said things he couldn't back up on the field. No way in the world I'm making him the highest paid DE in football.

I saw that but what's the hint? Is he sending the message that he would be a no show if tagged at 20M? I am certain he felt he was playing for a long term deal last season but haven't heard any rumblings, publicly, about a hold out if tagged.
