not the same they DID offer him good money, the extra years is what Murray wanted, so they wanted Murray but not at the years he wanted..Zekes young, durable, and 70% of our offense..until you have a for sure answer you have to consider signing him..AP is still going strong and Zeke is that kind of back as far as staying on the filed and production.. you know like ESmith..if you know hes not going to drop off cliff in 3-4 years he can play at level for at least one more contract..then why not?

Its the same. They didn't want to have a contract hanging over their heads with Murray in what they believed their research showed would be his down years. Why the hell would you do that this time around for even more money?

And Emmitt Smith has no bearing here. That was almost three decades ago when the league was different then.

AP is one in a million. I am not sure I would bank a large contract on the my guy being a rarity who will buck the trend at TB.

Zeke is arguably the Cowboys best player. Pay the man. He is the best running back in the league.

Quick question.

Name the 5 best TBs in the NFL right now. Or maybe even the 10 best.

Gotta love this franchise.

Wouldn't pay Murray a lot because they had data that said there was a downturn in production of TBs. But they are going to pay a crap ton to Zeke.

Note, Murray isn't as good as Zeke, so spare the responses. But the data doesn't change depending on who you have at TB. If they truly believed TBs, at the time of looking at Murray, decline during the period we will be paying Elliott a ton, and then drop $70MM on Elliott, they are insane.
Zeke was a 4th overall pick, Murray was a decent 3rd rounder, in the same mold as Kareem Hunt, also a 3rd round pick. Murray was oft injured as a Cowboy and declined after we let him walk.

I believe scatback is a huge position of need for us in the draft or FA this year. We need a guy who can take significant snaps off Zeke, especially in the receiving game. Zeke doesn't need to catch 77 checkdowns in addition to 270 carries a year.

Besides Zack Martin (and maybe LVE/Jaylon in the future), Zeke is the only real generational talent on the team as we speak. It makes the most sense to pay him and to pay him quickly.

That way he's right around 30 when his contract is up.
correct. You think about tagging him when his second contract is up and he's 29/30 and still elite.

thank god you arent the one making the decisions you ditch and gripe about no big FA by Jones but want them to cut Dak and Zeke and start over after 3-4 years , really..? come on man! some teams will pay RBs, Bell may have left Pitt but he will get a huge contract, Gurley got paid, Zeke will Fournette will ,SB will , some are worth the risk..you cant cut big time talent , I agree if hes wants ridiculous money and guarantees , im not on board with that..

oy... I guess "poker face" is a term the Jone's don't know.

Don’t need a poker face when you have the best RB in the league. Jerry knew he had the best in Emmitt and almost blew it. Not this time. Zeke makes this offense go!

Stephen and Jerry Jones have both now stated Prescott and Zeke will both be here a long time. I believe one of them stated that Cooper will be getting a large contract as well.

Yay. Can't wait until they collectively take up $60 million of our cap.
Which is okay.

Cooper, Dak, and Zeke on any team equals an automatic playoff lock.

Their isn’t a better skills position tandem than those 3 outside of Ben, Levon, and AB.

No, I pay premiums for certain positions. I don't view TB as one of those positions. I said it when they let Murray walk after he wanted a big contract. I said it when we used a Top 5 pick on a TB. I've said it every year Elliott has been here despite how good he's been. This is a passing league and you are seeing teams succeed and win SBs without having to heavily invest in RBs. At one point the Cowboys seemed to buy that theory as well. No longer, I guess.

I am also not opposed to extending Dak if the money is right. But I would never pay a TB big money into a 2nd contract.

And yeah, Gurley got paid. What did the Rams win? Better yet, how did the Rams do when an off the street TB in CJ Anderson was brought on? Gurley is a reason why the Cowboys should not be in a rush to pay Elliott more than Gurley.

Teams that pay TBs big money will likely regret it.

glad you dont have enough money to sign anyone, you arent a team owner, gm, or coach..so you dont get to make any of these decsions and when they come, deal with it , they wear the star and its not coming out of your bank brah..

The data doesn't change based on who your TB is. If the Cowboys had data that showed (and they said this publicly) that TB's decline at a certain age and it's not a wise investment to pour resources into the TB position, that data doesn't magically disappear because hey, we have Elliott now.

Is this the thread where all the couch potato fans that think they are smarter than everyone in the NFL comes to cry that we are going to keep Zeke around for a few more years?

Am I in the right place?

The NFL went a few years without even selecting an RB in the first round, and when they finally did - both David Wilson and Richardson were both out of the NFL in a couple years.

Can you show me another position, that isn't special teams, that went consecutive seasons without being drafted in the first?
