This is one thing that pisses me off about the Eagles.......... because I think their approach oin one area is better.

They pour resources into the DL. They'll probably draft a couple of DL, possibly high, with their plethora of picks. They don't rely on plucking projects in FA and trying to turn them into players like we do. They carpet bomb the crap out of the DL position and I wish we would too.
Before this signing I woulda bet on them going DE in the first round. After this signing I think they still go DL, probably DT after letting go of Jernigan. The team is built up front on both sides of the ball. If it's not DL it's gonna be OL.

I think there's a chance they keep Jernigan after they get him to restructure his deal.

I am bullish on building in the trenches. That's where you win games. We certainly seem to understand that at OL, but at DL, they seem to have bought, at least partially, into the notion that Marinelli is a magician and can turn cheap bums into great DL players.

It would be nice if they dropped an elite DT in here somewhere - either in the draft or in FA.

They've still got to keep Jordan Hicks, too. Not going to come close to matching Jaylon/LVE with Bradham + a JAG.

So the Eagles pay 30-year-old Graham that much, and Cowboys fans are impressed, but paying Earl Thomas the same money is crazy?

Cowboys fans.....wow.

Earl Thomas is better at football than Brandon Graham ever thought about being.

I didn't think of it in this context but that's a really good point. Graham is a fine player and good starter on a line, but if you can get the best safety in the league for the same contract, go get him.

agreed. Especially when even the best DLs in the league only play 70-75% of the snaps and the Eagles use a rotation and only play him around 60-65% to keep him fresh.

Whereas, an elite FS will play 99%+ of the snaps.

No restructure necessary. The Eagles did that last year after the back surgery. He got $3 million guaranteed for 2018 and an $11 million option this year. I think the Eagles have until March 13 to exercise the option.

I’m split on that one. He’s one of the players out for the season when we went 13-3 and won rings. As Cowboys have been historically avoidant to get an elite DT (at least since they took Maryland 1st overall), Philly has been the same way with their linebscking corps. Our front office simply doesn’t value it.

They had another quality linebacker, Kendricks, back in 2017. They don't have that now. That's one of those positions where you can't really be a serious contender with a JAG starting.

Kendricks played well in 2017, but he was way better in the 3-4. We made championship games all throughout the 00’s with some above average LB units, it can be done if your dline is good enough. Jeremiah Trotter and some broken lawn chairs.

making championship games =/= Super Bowls

Jordan Hicks is imperative because of his elite zone coverage skills, GPS for the football, and elite ability to read and react and pursue the ballcarrier against the run. His weakness is block shedding because he's a speed LB and not a big one, but that's more than made up for with his other skills patrolling the middle of the field. He's basically Jaylon Smith's equal when healthy

I think Hicks might be gone. He can't stay healthy.
they'd have to draft ILB in the first round if they lose Hicks. But even that would not be ideal because they'd be relying on a rookie to anchor the middle of the defense.

And it's not like there's many options available in FA, either. They could do a lot worse than Hicks for a relatively cheap 1 or 2 year prove it deal. Anthony Hitchens who is a JAG got $9 million a year just because he played for the Cowboys even though he's vastly, extremely inferior to Lee, Smith, or LVE. Hitchens was awful against the run in 2018 in KC.

It seems like a pretty standard length for a guy his age. Few teams give out 5 year deals to 31 year old DL.

That’s a lot of scratch though at like 12MM per. How they manage their cap will be interesting.

You were the one who thought Philly would franchise tag Foles and trade him for Fournette and a 1st round pick lol

If they pick up the option, he's a 13 million cap hit this year. There is no chance Jernigan plays for the Eagles this year carrying a $13MM cap hit. So they will have to do something to lower that hit if they want to keep him most likely.
