He was clearly using it to self-medicate for his problems. He thinks those problems are limited to physical pain, but to the rest of us observing him, it's clear mental wellness is also a problem, likely even bigger than the pain.

It's not shocking when a mentally unwell person who is self-medicating makes irrational decisions and destroys or walks away from the only positives (paying jobs or support systems where people were working to help put them in position to succeed) they had keeping them halfway afloat in life.

I feel bad for his daughter having a fool for a father. The $$$ he is passing on so he can be baked could have made a big difference in her life.

How many gambles you going to take? Once in a blue moon sure.. this team makes it a yearly occurrence. Stop bringing in head cases and stop drafting players early with off the field issues and injuries. The contract length and production will very rarely outweigh the headache. Another moronic philosophy. They'll do it again this year too. Very wise front office.

Stephen A ******** on Dallas instead of celebrating his own teams playoff win in 2017 makes no sense.

Wrong conclusion.

I agree with them standing up for what they believe in and taking a stand.

I think they are both nuts and should pick other causes.

Especially if they are going to be unemployed and stupid.

Let that be a lesson to you.

One was a worthy cause that actually turned out to be quite rewarding financially.

Irving didn't love playing football. He loved the pay check.

He didn't quit just to smoke weed. His heart wasn't in the game in the first place.
The deal with Irvin is that he did not ive back in the 60's.

He needs support for his habit..

I found another theme song for him..

You missed it David..

you are 2 generations late.

A team that takes this many risk is a team who wasn’t very good selecting past the 1st round even having Bust there as well.

Sorry..you lost me.

Which one..?

Irvin reminds me of Duane Thomas.

Remember him calling Tom Landry a plastic man?

That was the end of his golden career.

Duane was a big pot head.

I agree.

Why is it we can draft #1 round picks like most of our OL and backfield?

But when it comes to defense we draft druggie and fallen angles and expect to coach them up?

Jaylon Smith is about the only guy on defense who has overcome major setbacks to succeed.

And now the DL has crumbled and we are flying backwards again.

Very strange.

No matter what Irving and others think about marijuana, the fact remains that as a condition of employment with the NFL the use of marijuana is prohibited.

Heck, millions of Americans working everyday jobs would love to freely smoke pot but they choose not to do so because they understand that their employer has banned marijuana and other illegal substances.

I'm all for decriminalizing pot but until that happens you have to follow the laws that are currently on the books, it's as simple as that.

All that being said, I don't think Irvin loved playing football anyway. This is just a convenient excuse for him to use. Seriously, the guy has been a slacker since day 1 in Dallas. It was rare that you read a practice report and saw that he was a participant for an entire week. Usually there would be something like: "DNP: Excused for Personal Reasons" next to his name, or he'd milk some made up injury to sit out of practices.

IMO, you're an idiot if you choose smoking a $20 joint over making millions of dollars playing professional sports. But to each their own.

Not strange at all when you consider who’s making the decisions.

Of course I recall.

And if you’d kept up you wouldn’t need to ask which one as he was rewarded handsomely by Nike last year and recent lawsuit battle with the league.

5-10 years of just "working" and stacking up millions and millions of dollars....

Retire for life possibly at the age of 32-34.... guess what? smoke weed everyday and play video games and no one will probably give a damn

From what I've noticed the reason for this is because they tend to take more risk when choosing defensive players. It seems like they are more willing to err on the side of raw talent, being able to coach them up, and are more forgiving of red flags when dealing with defensive players. That's why they go after guys like JJ Wilcox, B. Jones, R. Gregory, and Owusu-Ansah in early rounds despite their huge question marks. Even Jaylon Smith was a huge gamble but luckily that gamble is paying off.

Whereas, on the offensive side of the ball it seems as if they will more often than not try to go with who they believe will be the safer pick. Guys like Z. Martin, Zeke, T. Smith, Gallup, Frederick, Witten, etc.

I'm not saying they never take gambles on the offensive side of the ball...I just think they are more willing to roll the dice when it comes to the defensive side of the ball.

So while Marijuana can be debated..our FO transactions are pretty questionable, too.

It has come home to roost now and the team is clearly drowning in its decisions with our DL.

Comments?

I completely agree with this and it's why I hate the system of nepotism that's rampant in the Cowboys organization in regards to personnel decisions. 95% of NFL GMs/personnel directors feet would be held to the fire for taking so many unnecessary risks on players with widely known red flags.

But here in Dallas there's little to no accountability for poor personnel decisions.

I completely understand several posters different opinions & point of views. However, for some dumb reason, I truly believe Irving is smoking the almighty weed for the justification of getting high & not for the aches/pains he endures.

After all, he's just a 25 yr old kid & not a retired 50+ NFL player. Just my guess of his persona.

Well sure that may be it, but who knows how many concussions he's had over the years of football, including grade school? That TE from the Patriots (Gonzalez? I can't remember his name) had signs of CTE and I'm sure he was 27 or younger when he was arrested. I heard somewhere that Irving claims to have "concussions every day" (I'm assuming he means he has headaches every day, and those headaches are a result from concussions he's suffered).

Oh brother...

So you think I should be following that crap?

I worked for a team of 10 attorneys as a Para legal.

My days of salivating over some bodies legal issues are long gone.

You got it handled.

Have a blast, son.

I got better things to read.

Glad to get you caught up.

Hernandez.

What a story that was.

If Irvin is having headaches like that..

something is up for sure.
