I'd be just as happy with Boston as Earl.

Main reason being, he's only like 26. Also, he produced and played very well the last 2 seasons, on 2 different teams.

He would change nothing. It would look the same. He's just another guy.

Earl Thomas would change EVERYTHING. He and Richard are brilliant together, and he can truly quarterback our young secondary. Boston couldn't quarterback a BLM rally.

Note, I am not advocating for Boston over Thomas. I want Thomas too but let's be honest here.......... this franchise has a tight, puckered butt when it comes to FA and even if the market for Thomas shrivels up, they likely won't end up with him as they will hold steady with their 3 years, $9MM per deal and someone will take a flier on a big one year deal and he'll take it.

So I am already looking at other options. Boston presents an upgrade over what we have, and is cheap. Other potential options like Gipson and others are already sliding off the board.

Deep down though, I know FA will end with the Cowboys signing neither a good S or any decent DL.

I do, because the entire hopes for 2019 entirely depend on signing him.

Without him, next season is already over.

Your mistake is thinking Thomas solves everything.

Maybe if he can also rush the passer and play DT as well.

I'm afraid I agree with you.

I will tell you this. If they don't sign ET, I'm selling all my tickets next year (to opposing fans most likely), and my interest will be at an all-time low.

Being smart is one thing. Being cheap is quite another.

What are you going to do if he signs elsewhere?

Doesn't solve everything, no. But without him, there isn't a solution available.

The offense can't score. We know that. It's imperative that they play truly elite defense, and that begins with signing Earl Thomas.

We can probably do better in the draft with a player like Thornhill. Only question is if he is around at #58.
That’s true but that’s also one other spot that doesn’t get help
That’s the balancing act, you have so many picks and you want to take BPA
You have to do some in the draft and sign some
What positions can you realistically upgrade in the draft and what positions do you address in FA

Then it's clear it 'Earl or Nothing' for you.
He's the ONLY free agent they need to bring in. The rest of it looks fine if Lawrence is here.

Why wouln't they add the truly one important piece they need?

As of today?

I'd chalk it up to a player having outrageous contract demands.

I'm not so sure. It's REALLY quiet. I think the Cowboys might have told him to sit tight for a few hours.

I think they're trying to work a trade on Lawrence. And I think they're hammering out terms with Thomas.

Personally, I don't think other teams want to offer Thomas because they think Dallas has a handshake arrangement to match it if they want to.

I can't see how that would stop everyone from even making an offer.

But who knows? It has been suspiciously quiet on Thomas, especially given all of the other crazy activity.

Christian Covington + Tre Boston would be two upgraded weak positions without breaking the bank.

Agree, if we don’t get ET then I think the plan is to draft a S. You know how the Cowboys work...if they plan on drafting a S high (rd 2-3) then they will sign some tier 3-4 S in FA in the next 2 weeks for insurance. So, either ET or bust.
