The Only Logical Explanation For The FO Inactivity

The NFC East has turnover at the top every year.

Winning the East again was always going to be tough and the Cowboys are basically not going to give the 2019 team the ammo they need to do anything significant.

This upcoming season is a big loss and a transition out of Garrett. That's all it is.

My hope we is we don't pay Dak now and just completely tank to draft a QB.
Oh Dak is DEFINITELY getting paid. But who needs free agency when you have a guy on your team people love to play hard for... especially after he is paid big money?

There's a much simpler reason.

Jerry & Gang are just completely incompetent in FA. And I don't mean signing your first round picks to max, position highest contracts.

This is another example of our GM and his sidekick son not being under any kind of pressure to win now or even win at all. If there’s no outside pressure to ever be better than you’ve been, it’s ok to throw whole seasons away. Even a few seasons if you look at hiring Garrett under the idea of “learning on the job”. His 3 straight 8-8 seasons 2011-13 showed they were ok with wasting three prime seasons of Tony Romo’s best years.

Sitting out there on the boat, laughing all the way to the bank.

Win or lose, those guys win. For real.

We can draft starting caliber DT and S with our first two picks. Not sure who the available vet FA DEs are.

Without Tank and with the unknown Gregory, DE does not look good with no way out. Crawford can do enough at RDE in a pinch but not long term. Hopefully Armstrong makes strides and Taco gets his head out of his butt.

Just need to find a way to muster enough production from our DEs so they are not a liability then come back next draft with a 1st round pick and get a real one.

My honest opinion is that the front office is way too close to the players and therefore don't want to ruffle any feathers with a big free agent signing. It's all about how well liked a player is rather than if he has any actual talent.

This will be a bad year for the Cowboys. But the good news is we will get rid of JG and Moore and get a new coach and OC.

This makes no sense.

If they really felt this way, the smart thing to do would have been to fire Garrett this off-season. Bring in a new coach and go from there.

Not waste another season, waste another season of key players prime years, fielding a team you don’t think can win.
This is logical thinking but Jerrys love for Garrett has blinded him!

Hopefully Armstrong makes strides and Taco gets his head out of his butt.

Armstrong is just going into his second year, so it's possible he "makes strides". Taco is entering his 3rd year, but really since he didn't play his first at all, he's more like a second year player. Also possible he "makes strides"

I don't have much hope that any DE they get at no. 58, barring another La'el Collins-type situation, will be any better than those two. Possibly, if there's a run on several other positions so that some of the better DEs fall down, or the Cowboys trade up into an earlier pick. Never know with Jerry.

So for me I'm having to rely on the two mentioned to really step it up, as far as the DE position goes, as the best case scenario...

That does not matter. This year is all that matters. The draft is deep at DT and S. I think we can get one of each that are Michael Gallup tier at their position. That are solid in the rotation, may get some starts and really flash potential as a future starter.

If we come away with that from this draft it will be a success.

I’m definitely into resigning our own Pro
Bowlers, but I definitely know we need 1 or 2 outside talents to make this team better.

The FO seems to not agree, but what if they are planning ahead to 2020?

If JJ and SJ are serious about their last chance for JG, maybe they are anticipating his departure after this season. If they are sure he won’t be the HC in 2020 (Its not hard to imagine the FO not believing he can take the team to the SB). Then maybe they dont see the point of investing in the guys that aren’t locks to be here.

Maybe the FO wants to wait for Sean Payton (who they could very well already have a verbal agreement with) or whoever the next HC is to pinpoint the players they want in next years FA. With the players the team has to resign, the team could maneuver the cap to where 2020 would be an all-in year. Keeping our pro bowlers and having a new HC come in to hand pick FA’s would make the 2020 season seemingly the most SB ready team and coach we’ve had since 09.

Heck even the Witten signing points to the FO giving JG one last go with his guys, even though it’s pretty clear “his guys” aren’t enough.

This theory definitely has some holes in it and there is a great chance the FO is just terrible in FA and can only draft. But I’m clinging to some hope that the team is gearing up for a 2020 title run sans JG.

What do y’all think?

Que the: “Next year is our year crowd” lol

The Cowboys have a long term plan to add talent in the draft and use free agency to fill holes.

Amari Cooper is part of the draft plan.

There is no logical explanation. We have Jerry's polar opposite running the team and he's concerned with digging in the dumpsters to find every scrap of salvageable food to put on our plate

The telling part to me will come with the quarterback.

If they don't extend him?

I may agree with you that they will leave the big decisions up to the new head coach.

If they pay the quarterback?

No, they're just a bunch of morons.

Let me save you some time

THEY'RE MORONS

Not enough cap space to sign our guys and any other big names. Unless they get creative. Which can be costly.

Can you say Tank, Dak, Amari, Zeke, throw in 2-3 Flemming type deals on some second tier FAs and what ya got Wilson. If you're sayin the FO is hangin JG out to dry by not signing top tier FA's explain the past 3 years compadre. We're gonna do what we've done over the past 3 years. Focus on our own "right kind of guys". Fish at the mid to lower levels of FA and probably catch a few lazy arse catfish sunning them selves then dive in to the draft. Anyone who didn't see that are called (insert dumb as a fence post here)
